Its really easy. Take a circular piece of fairly stiff leather. Cut out a section and bend the edges together to make a shallow cone. Two holes for the ties and you're done. You can use one lace to keep the knots from showing.
The one I used came from my grandsons pirate costume. Traced it out on a piece of paper and went from here. used a scrap piece of heavy black leather for the eye patch and some black 2mm cord for the string.
I just made one from my own eye. I got some paper, put it over my eye and traced the socket of my skull. Then I shaped it and cut it out see if it would be a good shape, marked the strap points and transferred the pattern onto the leather. I did wet the piece and form it by nailing the patch to the head of a rubber mallet as well so it wasn't pressing down on my eye so much.
1. First cut out your foam pieces, add any extra fun pieces that you may want. Remember, the more you add, the heavier your patch will be. Linked here (Patch Pattern) is a pdf pattern of the main patch pieces.
First slide the temples in between the main patch and the rectangular piece. If you have cables, making sure the ends get in the smaller hole is a little tricky. Those with Miraflex, I think you can take the band off. If not, e-mail me and I will think of something.
Then pull through until the patch sits comfortably on the glasses. I trimmed with my scissors around the nose piece so the patch sits inside of the plastic and a bit from the top so it rests comfortably on their forehead (thats why it is easier to make the pattern bigger and cut to fit). If you have the regular nosepiece, then you could make a vertical slit for the nosepiece to fit into
Hi! I just made a patch for myself tonight for my new glasses. I am 31 and I know my eyesight in my left eye probably will not improve, but I am doing it to keep from losing the muscle and having it turn out. So I made a patch and took some photos and wondered if I could share them with you. It is modified a little but it is your pattern. I have it on now and I can say my eye muscle is going to be nice and sore tomorrow. ?
Thank you
First, you need 2 small squares of fabric (take a soft fabric, because if not it will irritate your skin. The squares must be the same size. Even tough I said 3 x 3 inches of fabric, you can make it the size you want, as long as the 2 squares are the same size.
Fold the edges of one square as shown on the picture. cut your elastic in half. check if th elastic is not to tight on your head, or your eyepatch will squeeze your face and there will be an ugly bump(check on the pictures how it squeezes my face. It is a bad mistake to make). then, stich the ends of the elastics on the fabric like shown.
Pirate eye patch template and skull applique - two free PDF templates and a tutorial for you that will help you make a quick and easy pirate costume. Combined with this free pirate vest pattern I shared a few weeks ago, these little diy pirate accessories just rock! Get the template now.
It was my absolutely LAST-MINUTE sew, from a few years ago when my (then) toddler asked for a pirate costume when our/his friends were about to visit. I had exactly half an hour to come up with an idea AND stitch the vest, the pirate hat, draft, cut and sew two skull appliques - and tie a piece of elastic around a round (-ish) piece of black eye patch. Talk about last minute!
2) Model it against your diy pirate vest and decide on the best place to attach it. Then tack it using a needle and white thread, but you can even use a teflon foot to stitch it on the vest. (Or, if you don't have a teflon foot, tape a piece of washi tape onto the bottom side of the sewing machine foot to help it slide over the craft foam. It works!)

Or ...go straight to the gift bag pattern. Smart and simple construction, originally a gift bag but around Halloween, it doubles as an adorable Trick-Or-Treat bag - 6 sizes and designs for all your wishes!
I want to say how much I appreciated this article. My son has to be patched for 4 hours a day. And he hated the only one i could find in town. I let him pick a bunch of fabric yesterday. He loves his new patches and is way more comfortable now. Thank you!
Thank you for this pattern! I found it on a Pinterest and immediately made one for my son! He only needs the patch a little every day at this point, but I can already tell this patch is going to be such an improvement! And I LOVE that I can use fabric scraps from other projects to personalize it for him! THANK YOU!

I just want to thank you so very very much for this post!!! My 6 year old was diagnosed with Amblyopia over a year ago. Your page was sent to me by a friend a few months later (sometime last summer) when the doctor said we had to patch. I immediately began making your patches and they have been a huge success. Not only is my daughter more compliant with patching because she gets to pick which patterns she likes, they are so cheap and easy to make that we always have several kicking around (in the car, in my purse, in her backpack etc etc). I have also been stopped in public on a few occasions by moms fed up with bandage patches and pirate patches asking how to make them.
hi, my daughter was just diagnosed with amblyopia today. No surprise, I have it and just like you I always took my horrid black patch off as soon as I could (and my right eye is terrible because of it). So, my almost 3 year old needs a patch and I might just have to make her one like this. Thanks for the tutorial.
I just read this & I'm going to try making my own patches. I suffer from double vision & extreme sensitivity to light in one eye & now have to wear a patch permanently. I started out wearing the adhesive ones which I really hated. I've now got a couple of leather ones which look nice but they're still pretty uncomfortable to wear all the time. A felt patch should let more air through- the worst thing about wearing a patch for me is never feeling fresh air around my eye & the constant hot, sticky feeling underneath. Plus I'll get a chance to try out a few of my own designs.

What a cutie! I'm so sorry that he has to go thru what I did as a child. My eyepatch was black on the inside and flesh colored outside, clipping to the inside of my glasses. (This was back in 1958-60)Like Natalie, I wish my mom had made something like this for me! Give Sawyer a big hug for me! ?
xoxo

Aw! This is adorable, and so is the little guy ? I wish my mom were that clever when I was little and had to do the eye patch. My best friend's daughter does the patch, I'll pass this along to her.

Spectacular large duck of Alaska and Russia. Males have large, sloping orange bill, white back and black underparts. Distinctive face pattern of white "spectacles" outlined in black, with greenish back of the head.

Breeds in coastal marshes and tundra, typically on small islands in ponds, lakes, or rivermouths. Molts in the Bering Sea (north of about 63N latitude) and winters in leads in the sea ice (known as "polynyas") in the Bering Sea, usually south of St. Lawrence Island.
For this tutorial on how to make a pirate hat, The Jamie Lynn Show used red, black and white felt, but you can choose any colors you like! Draw your own patterns on scratch paper or print some you find online. Make sure to size your hat pattern to fit your child's measurements!
Fold your base felt in half and place your hat pattern along the fold. Using a half pattern with a fold like shown makes the process a little easier, and a little faster to cut out, and it's a great way to make sure both sides match evenly!
If your child will be wearing a pirate beard, size and cut out the beard pattern from faux fur fabric. You can either secure it with string or use a skin-safe glue, like lash adhesive, to tack on to your child's face.
Find a striped shirt to complete the costume, and your kiddo is ready for some high-sea Halloween adventures! Now that you know how to make a pirate hat, you can make one for everyone in the fam to complete your crew of shipmates. Buried treasure optional!
This paper proposes a novel eye detection method using the MCT-based pattern correlation. The proposed method detects the face by the MCT-based AdaBoost face detector over the input image and then detects two eyes by the MCT-based AdaBoost eye detector over the eye regions. Sometimes, we have some incorrectly detected eyes due to the limited detection capability of the eye detector. To reduce the falsely detected eyes, we propose a novel eye verification method that employs the MCT-based pattern correlation map. We verify whether the detected eye patch is eye or non-eye depending on the existence of a noticeable peak. When one eye is correctly detected and the other eye is falsely detected, we can correct the falsely detected eye using the peak position of the correlation map of the correctly detected eye. Experimental results show that the eye detection rate of the proposed method is 98.7% and 98.8% on the Bern images and AR-564 images.
