In a studio workshop in fashion construction we worked in pairs with our peers to create a pattern magic technique by Tomoko Nakamichi -our pattern was to insert a circular design line in a pattern which from the sample on the mannequin our tutors had put up ,looked really advanced but professional ,I was excited to get started in learning this new technique that looked quite difficult but impressive.
we cut the darts out and cut down the middle line to create a middle seam at the top and the bottom of the bodice pattern ,cutting towards the circle centred in the middle ,then me and Charlotte closed the under arm darts, then closed the waist arm darts and closed with masking tape ,leaving apart of the circle uncut.
we cut out our circle cutting up to the neck line and to the bust line ,we made the pattern part into two pieces with the circle on one side and added in a 1cm seam allowance , As we wanted two contrasting sides of the pattern we used calico and light weight blue fabric.
With the pattern cut in two we pinned the two sides to the different coloured fabrics and cut out the pattern for sewing, taking it in turns we sewed the pattern together using the mountain and the valley technique by snipping in and manipulating the fabric to get a curved seam.
I loved the result and found it was a lot easier than it looked ,i found it easier than the shawl collar but i think that was the same for all my peers in the workshop . i will be definitely using this pattern in the future as i think the pattern looks so impressive and catches your eye.
