Wed like to thank all those who took part in the 1.40 Open Beta, made bug reports, and provided general feedback on this new version. We hope you can now begin to fully enjoy the various new features which are included within this update. So, what can you expect to find in the 1.40 update for ETS2?

To prepare for this new lighting system, our teams had to make a lot of changes not only to our graphic renderer, its code, and other functionalities, but also to existing in-game world objects; including a majority of the in-game assets, textures, and materials to better work with the new physical model of the new lighting system. Want to get an in-depth look into what we had to revisit to make this major graphical change happen? Read more about it here.

We are very excited for you to be able to experience and immerse yourself in driving in the new light. The result is the culmination of a ton of hours by our programmers and visual effect artists and many other teams involved in the creation process of this new system. And even after this tremendous amount of work already spent in this area we are still not completely done. You can expect further changes and improvements to be done in the future. So while the open beta is done, we are still open and more than happy to get your feedback and opinions about this new graphics upgrade for our games.

For those who are new to our game, the Revisiting Germany project consists of a small dedicated map team, who has been working hard to update one of the oldest map sections of the base game with a more realistic and up-to-date look.

Additionally, the areas around Dortmund, Kln, Dusseldorf, and Duisburg have not only benefitted from a complete road network redesign but a few new intersections and roads as well! The southern part of the Bundesautobahn 7 is now available in this update.

With the upcoming release of the Iberia expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2, we know that many drivers will be excited to progressively make their way down Europe to cross into the peninsula for the first time. With France being mainland Europe's gateway to Spain and Portugal, our team has developed 2 new French locations which are a part of a free update to the Vive La France ! DLC coming with 1.40.

The first of these is the city of Bayonne, located in the southwest of France; it is the capital of the French Basque Country and an important connection for drivers heading to Spain as it is located close to the border.

The second location is the smaller commune of Lacq, which is located in the Arrondissement of Pau. While this small village is going to be just a scenic drive-through for most, Lacq is home to the largest refinery in France.

Both of these areas plus two new connecting junctions in Toulouse and Bordeaux come as a free update to the Vive La France ! DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2, which we originally announced would arrive with the release of Iberia. However, with them being ready now, we thought it would be a nice surprise to include them early in this update.

Our latest ETS2 DLC is also about to get an update - two of the amazing designs in the Super Stripes Paint Jobs Pack have been expanded and are now applicable on owned trailers! And believe it or not, there was a small social media experiment behind the choice of the two paint jobs that were picked for this upgrade.

Back in November 2020, we wrote several short and seemingly insignificant posts on our Euro Truck Simulator 2 and SCS Software Facebook pages, where we called upon our community to cast votes on which DLC designs you liked the most. Today we are happy to share with you that the two most popular designs are getting an upgrade so that everyone can match these designs on both trucks and trailers!

Your engagement and activity on our social media channels really do matter! We can't wait to see all the beautiful matching combinations on your vehicles. This may be a good opportunity for some VTCs to redesign their virtual corporate identity!

Demo version of Euro Truck Simulator 2, a video game created by Czech studio SCS Software. The authors allow us to visit us virtually the whole Western Europe and Great Britain behind the wheel of the powerful 18-wheel truck. We are also gonna start our transport company and manage dozens of drivers and their machines.. This demo is based on version 1.40.4.8.

The great majority of driving simulators that currently monopolize the market are focused on the most popular motorsports such as Formula 1, high range or powerful vehicles or street races, but there are other alternatives that will allow us to prove our skill when it comes to driving, like Euro Truck Simulator 2.

The difficulty of the game doesn't only lie on arriving on time to each destination to deliver our goods, but also on making sure that the truck arrives without any damage, something somewhat difficult for those users that are used to games where you never have to lift your foot off the accelerator. Discover a new kind of driving simulator thanks to this game.

One of the most significant changes you will notice when you first get into the cab of the truck is the implementation of a new lighting system. This new rendering uses Full HDR internal components, and allows it to better adapt to changes in daylight or in various weather conditions.

To adapt to this new light, the artistic teams had to make a lot of changes to the textures and materials of the environments that make up the game, in order to benefit from a better physics (more beautiful reflections, etc.). All while keeping in mind that the game must run on mid-range GPUs, and below. We can only salute this work!

With the upcoming release of the Iberia extension for Euro Truck Simulator 2, SCS Software believes that many drivers will be delighted to be gradually moving back down Europe to enter the peninsula for the first time. France being the gateway from continental Europe to Spain and Portugal, the team has developed 2 new French sites which will be part of a free update of Vive La France!

The first being the city of Bayonne, located in the southwest of France; it is the capital of the French Basque Country and an important connection for drivers traveling to Spain as it is located near the border.

The second location will be the smaller municipality of Lacq, which is located in the district of Pau. Although this small village is only a scenic road for the most part, Lacq is home to the largest refinery in France.

These two zones as well as two new connection junctions in Toulouse and Bordeaux will come as a free update of the Vive La France DLC! for ETS 2, after leaving Iberia. However, given that they are already ready, the developers thought it would be a good surprise to include them in this beta 1.40 update.

We already know for a long time that SCS Software is never resting. The moment we get an update or new DLC, we can assume that SCS is already working on the next project. 2 projects we know of are, first of all, update 1.40 which brings us some new features, and secondly the Iberia DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2.

Let's start with a big change under the hood of this game, the new visual lighting system. SCS Software worked hard on a brand new lighting system (and is still working on it). A very noticeable change is the implementation of new skyboxes.

But it doesn't stop there. The light sources in the game are all working differently, taking the objects and assets around you into account. So you will also notice a big difference in the weather conditions and how they look like.

Of course, these changes are not simply made by adding different light sources to the game. The developers have to work hard to change a lot of in-game world objects, assets, textures and materials so that they fit the new lighting system.

The changes implemented in Open Beta 1.40 are the first step towards a completely new and better physical light model. Every step of the way, those changes will make everything in the game look more realistic than ever before.

Another big change, or should we say addition, is the so-much-requested different chassis choice. SCS Software is adding a whole range of new chassis to the game. In 1.40 we can find new 4x2, 8x4 and 8x6 chassis, which can be used for a wide range of trailers and cargoes.

Do you still remember the launch of the Western Star 49X, back in September 2020? SCS Software was very proud to be able to implement this truck in the game on the same day as when the truck got revealed in real life. That was really a unicum and something they can be proud of. Of course, that early launch went together with the lack of customization options for that truck.

Throughout the entire map of America, we have a variety of viewpoints. Viewpoints are special places where you can stop with your truck and get a short video of the surroundings and are marked with a green video camera icon. The developers started implementing that a couple of updates (DLCs) ago and with almost every update they add some more of those beautiful videos, for us to enjoy.

In the past, we already got quite some changes with almost every update for Germany. Germany is one of the big countries in Europe that is a member of the original game countries. Since the game already exists since 2012, it is time to improve some details and therefore the developers are implementing those overhaul changes on a pretty fast pace, which is with almost every update.

The biggest changes with the 1.40 update go to the highways and other roads. There where the mapping team already made a lot of retouches to in-game assets, they never changed anything to the roads and highways. It is time to do that. Especially the areas around Dortmund, Kln, Dusseldorf, and Duisburg will benefit from those changes and even the southern part of the Bundesautobahn 7 will be available now.
