A newly developed method that can rapidly identify the type of bacteria causing a blood infection, and the correct antibiotics to treat it, could save clinicians time, and patient lives. Blood infections are serious, and can lead to the life-threatening condition sepsis, but conventional diagnostic methods can take days to identify the causes. This new method does away with some of the time-consuming steps, and the researchers behind it say that if it can be fully automated, it could provide results in less than a day.
Waking up for the past four years of my life, I felt like I was in the movie Groundhog Day. The same things happened every day, and I felt the same horrible feelings all the time. Anxiety, depression, and hopelessness ran my life.
I had lost my job, which paid for my education. All my friends had drug abuse issues, and I removed myself from their lives or vice versa. My puppy, best friend since age five, died four days before my birthday. I was plagued with pain from Lyme disease and an undiagnosed tick-borne illness. I felt like every piece of my life was falling apart.
I really believed that I could just think my way out of the hopelessness-box I had placed myself in. I obsessed and ran and re-ran the same thoughts all day, trying to make sense or pull what I wanted out of every conversation.
My mind was a mess of tangled thoughts that I used to keep me in a bad place. Nothing was ever good enough; nothing was ever good at all. And there seemed nothing I could do about it but obsess even more.
The real reason why I was uncomfortable and stuck in this thought loop was because of my own insecurities. I did not feel like I was good enough for him, hence my sneaking suspicion he would cheat on me. Focusing on what he may do kept me from addressing my own issues.
I slowly started substituting tasks with things I wanted to do. Instead of coming home and picking up the living room, I would come home and exercise. I felt better, relaxed, and energized when I was done, and the picking up got done quickly and without the bitterness accompanied by never having any time to do anything for me.
It seems like as we grow into adults, we are expected to act like grown-ups and slowly filter out all the fun in our lives. Piece by piece you realize everything that you used to enjoy, you no longer do!

That's right... the chances are you've found us because you're looking for something a little different from the norm. We are passionate advocates that everyone can find a way of moving their body that they enjoy and we practise that principle in our own lives. Which is why we are proudly a weight-neutral studio. No body-shaming, no weight-loss talk, no diet discussions... at Spark Life we celebrate moving our bodies as a form of self-compassion and self-care.
We're also proud to be a CIC (Community Interest Company) which means we are for impact not for profit. We want movement and wellbeing to be accessible to all and our mission is to make a difference to the lives of the women in our community by providing inclusive fitness and wellbeing opportunities. That's why our class memberships and room hire options are on a sliding scale:
Our standard memberships offer you the opportunity to Pay What We Need to cover the costs of running a business, maintaining a facility and paying our female coaching team a living wage for themselves and their families to thrive.
We also offer a Pay it Forward option which enables those who would like to support us in our mission of breaking down barriers for women to move and be well, to do so. From the option to choose a membership with an additional donation, or to 'donate a session' on an ad hoc basis, we hope this opportunity to empower women through movement makes our community even stronger!
We can offer any of our the 4 rooms in our studio for rent so you can choose the space that's right for you. There are 3 toilets in the building, a small outside yard, and a kitchen where brews and biscuits are available.
Just one mile a day can be extremely beneficial for your heart, joints, muscles, mental health and overall general physical health and wellbeing. That's just 2000 steps outside in the fresh air or 15-30 minutes of escaping the stresses of life and enjoying the outside world.
Lift your garden with the beautiful flowering might of Rose Spark of Life. A recent introduction, and one we are immensely proud and excited about, this produces outstanding Floribunda roses to delight in the summer garden.
Blooms emerge from mid-June to November, with shell-pink, almost dusky clusters. Plus, this compact bushy variety releases a strong, lingering, and truly encapsulating aroma, harking back to traditional rose perfumes from yester-year.
Plenty of petals make up each flower, opening gracefully with time to reveal pollen and nectar, which are delicious and valuable to bees. Even the plant of Spark of Life is a marvel, with big, dark green leaves that are supremely resistant to disease.
We are proud of to donate 2.50 from every sale of this rose to The Royal Humane Society (registered charity no. 231469). This rose was named to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the charity, which recognises and awards medals for bravery to those who go above and beyond the normal levels of caring for others in times of need, often in life-saving scenarios.

Welcome to Spark Life Chiropractic. We are a whole family focused practice, utilizing neurologically-centered technology and techniques to locate the source of any health challenges you or your loved ones may be experiencing, in order to spark true healing from the inside out.
After scheduling your initial visit to Spark Life Chiropractic, our team members will email specific paperwork tailored to your individual health goals. We ask that you provide as much detail in your paperwork about your specific needs. This will help the doctor connect with who you are and help us serve you. You must have the paperwork filled out before your first visit to the office or your appointment may be rescheduled.
Your first visit to the office will give us the opportunity to connect with you. At Spark Life Chiropractic, we care about your wellness goals and strive to help you achieve them to the best of our ability. After connecting over your paperwork, we will perform a detailed assessment, determining if your neuro-spinal system is balanced. Please allot the appropriate time needed, as the first visit will take 45 minutes.
By the time of your second visit, the doctor has gone over the results of your neuro-spinal analysis and has created a care plan specific to your individual health needs. At this visit, we will discuss your care plan, any additional recommendations, and answer any questions that you may have. Please note that this visit will take 30 minutes. You will receive your first adjustment on this visit.
