Linux Live USB Creator (aka LiLi) is another nice tool you can use to install various Linux compilations, versions and distributions to a USB flash drive. The end result is a Bootable Live USB (with persistence as well in some cases). LiLi USB creator formerly known as uSbuntu Live creator, can help you quickly make a Linux Bootable USB flash drive from a source Image, ISO, or CD. The tool can also download the IMG or ISO file for you.
But this boot tool doesn't stop there. You can also use LiLi USB creator to install a Portable VirtualBox on your USB drive. Allowing you to boot your Portable Linux installation emulated from inside of Windows.
According to www.linuxliveusb.com, it is possible to have your USB formatted in such a way that you actually can save your files and settings (called persistence). It is also possible to boot from the USB that you installed your live Linux distribution on, but I have not personally played around with this much.
