Dear All,

I was using itk snap 3.6 stable release by remoting in to my research computer, when it suddenly crashed. When trying to open it again, I get this

Exception occurred during ITK SNAP startup

Details:

E:\tk\bb3\Nightly\itk\v4.8.2\itk\Modules\IO\XML\src\itkXMLFile.cxx:104:

not well-formed (invalid token) C:/Users/lie/AppData/Roaming/itksnap.org/ITK-SNAP/UserPreferences.xml

I uninstalled this version and installed it again, I got the same error, except the 1st row of the details was changed this time, I uninstalled it again and installed the latest/ beta version, with the same error (exc 1st row). This despite rebooting several times. I did not find those tokens on my computer. Essentially I cannot use itksnap on my box at this time.

Please advise,

Octavian

Hi Octavian

The solution is to delete the file in the error message. The file should be there but you might have to change the settings in windows explorer so you can see hidden files and folders.

Dear Paul,

I deleted the file and all was well, thank you. Later on, the error repeated twice, both times after closing several windows at once from the taskbar (right click, close all?), not individually. Wanted to report that.

I've definitely observed this phenemenon. I frequently have this error, and have attributed it to multiple windows.
Is it possible that the saving of the UserPreferences is lacking any synchronization mechanism? So multiple processes might be mangling the file.
