Good afternoon, PCC and ITI colleagues.

As IHE International’s representative to the IPS Coordination Committee (IPSCC), I have been assigned a work item for IHE to respond to.  The details of this work item are as follows:

For IHE International:

This Change Proposal is being raised as a result of discussions at IPSCC in September 2025 on how to manage the Change Logs of IPS Artefacts as they go through normal processes of change and update within the relevant SDO. To test this out, it was agreed that each participating SDO would be responsible for reviewing the change logs for the 2025 releases of FHIR IPS IG v2.0.0 and ISO 27269:2025, identifying the impact of the changes on their artefacts and putting a plan together for any relevant work.

The focus of this Jira ticket/IPS issue is on the change log for FHIR IPS IG v2.0.0 which can be found at Changes - International Patient Summary Implementation Guide v2.0.0 (https://hl7.org/fhir/uv/ips/STU2/changes.html#stu-200-final-publication)

IPS Assessment Questions

Please assess the impact of the new release of the FHIR IPS IG v2.0.0 on your IPS artefacts. Incorporate any relevant changes in your IPS artefacts, when not disputed. Please raise any disputed changes back to IPSCC.
As you’re aware, HL7 recently released an updated version of their IPS FHIR Implementation Guide v2.0.0, and they have made available their official change log for other SDO’s to synchronize their IPS artefacts.  I understand that work is already underway in PCC to update the IPS Profile to this version of the FHIR IG, so this notice is merely the formalization of this synchronization activity.  For ITI, there may also be impact to the sIPS Profile, so if you haven’t done so already, please begin the process of ensuring alignment to the new FHIR IG.  I will report to the IPSCC that this work is underway by both PCC and ITI domain committees.  If there are issues, please raise them to me and I will ensure they are documented on the JIRA ticket for this work item.

Note also that the new version of ISO/27269 (Second Edition) has also recently been published.  Currently, ISO does not have a mechanism to produce a change log, but the IPSCC is working with them to create an artefact that the other SDOs can use to align their respective contributions to the “IPS suite of standards”.  I will advise when the ISO change log becomes available and when you can undertake to ensure our IPS profiles are aligned to that as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions on how we can streamline these processes within IHE.

Many thanks, and best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season!!

Best,

Mike.
