While we are looking for space it would be good to get a consensus on
what we are looking for in a space. Below are listed some desirable/
required features for us to consider when looking. Please respond with
comments or suggestions/ improvements:

* Required.
* No neighbors who will care about noise level.
* Access to bathroom facilities
* Heat (must not freeze in winter). Must remain usable
* Reasonable sized electrical service
* After hours access (need to be able to get in at all hours)

* Desirable
* On a bus route (for people without cars and students)
* Convenient (Free) parking
* 220VAC/3 Phase power
* Large doors for moving equipment/ projects in and out
* Heavy floor (something large machinery won't damage/ bow, probably
concrete?)
* High ceilings
* Access to circuit breaker panel

* Nice to haves
* Outdoor space access (somewhere to work on large/ smelly stuff)

* Cost?
* We want rent to be low. Probably not more than 1/2 of what we can
count on from core members in dues. The higher the rent and other
recurring costs are, the more people's dues are necessary to keep the
space running and less money is available for improving the space/
buying tools. What do people think about this?

* Size
* How big of a space do we need? I'm not really sure how much space
is necessary, so can other people chime in here?

If you folks are interested in teaming up with other groups, there
are a bunch of us in town that have been talking about setting up a
"share house" (rather than warehouse...) where people could drop off
used-but-good things that others could then pick up for free -
salvaged materials, housewares, electronics, clothing, etc. And we
too would want super-cheap rent and could share a space. If it was
downtown it could even be used for events and classes as well.

We've got a website, http://sharetompkins.wordpress.com/ if you want
to find out more about us.

Anyway, maybe this is too crazy to think of these things combining,
but I thought I'd put it out there in case you're into it. If you're
interested, maybe we could come to a meeting so we could talk more
about it and brainstorm.

Peace!
Ari

Ari,
Put it up on the forum, and see what response it gets (now that we
have one)!
