how to apply the settings defined in a profile to one or more tabs in iTerm?

I wonder if I might misunderstand some basics about profiles in iTerm2 because I can's seem to figure this out.

I'm using a recent beta build of iTerm2 (Build 2.9.20160426). I've set it up with four tabs each having two or three 'terminals', allowing me to group usage for services, git, ssh, etcetera.
I also created one profile; but if I understand it correctly this "terminal / tab arrangement" is not tied to a profile but has its own Arrangements tab in the Preference pane.

Some time ago I created a color preset within the context of that profile. I would like to apply this colour preset to all the terminal windows within iTerm2.
But I can't figure out how. Only one of the ten or so terminals has adapted to that preset, but I have no idea why the preset was applied to that specific terminal, nor how to apply it to the rest.

In other words: how can I link a profile to a terminal instance, or to all terminal instances within a tab, or (preferably) to all terminal instances within iTerm2?

You can save a collection of windows as a window arrangement (Window > Save Window Arrangement) and it will record the window positions, which tabs/panes are present, and which profile each session uses.

Some time ago I created a color preset within the context of that profile

I take this to mean you used Edit>Edit Session… (cmd-I) to change the colors. This modifies the colors for the session without updating the profile.

> I would like to apply this colour preset to all the terminal windows within iTerm2

Go to that session and select the menu item Edit > Edit Session…. Then choose the profile you want to change in the General tab and click "Copy Current Settings to Selected Profile".

how can I link a profile to a terminal instance…

In the Edit Session panel, select the profile you want and click "Use Selected Profile"

> … or to all terminal instances within a tab

You can do that for each session, or perhaps you just need to change the profile that they all share (if they indeed do use the same profile).

Hi,

actually, no: I set like this: menu -> Profiles -> Open Profiles -> select the one profile in there -> click the Edit Profiles button -> the preferences dialog opens with the profiles tab selected -> click the Colors sub-tab
Although I see that I can also simply choose the menu iTerm2 -> preferences- > click the Profiles tab > click the Colors sub-tab

Anyhow, that really helped. I have set it all up now, the badges are also useful! Thanks again.
