I am trying to use tmux on a remote host to integrate with iterm2.

Is that possible.

I installed tmux 1.8 (from head) on my remote ubuntu machine

But iterm does not seem to notice with I start the tmux -C session.

You need the special version of tmux on the iTerm2 Web page.

Thanks I finally tried that and it works.

Is there are git branch I can track and compile from instead?

You can use this branch:

But make sure you also build iTerm2 from the top of the master branch because they change in parallel.

Can you please tag the branch when you do a iTerm2 release.

Thanks for the reminder. I tagged both iTerm2 in the v2 branch and tmux2 in the mountainlion branch.
