Is there a way to copy my iterm2 settings from one MacBook to another?  I got a new computer and would like to save the hassle of setting everything up again.

1. On the old machine, go to prefs > general and turn on Load preferences from a custom folder or URL.
2. Specify a folder, e.g. /tmp
3. Click prefs > general > save current settings to folder
4. Copy the resulting file, e.g., /tmp/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist to your new machine
5. On the new machine, go to prefs > general and turn on Load preferences from a custom folder or URL
6. Choose the folder that you copied your prefs file to
7. Restart iTerm2
8. Turn off prefs > general > load prefs from a custom folder.

I've done a somewhat fancier thing ... set up a Google Drive folder (could be Dropbox or whatever) and put the .plist file there. This allows me to run iTerm2 on any number of machines and share settings, but it could be used as a one-time way of moving settings too.

In fact I've thought about putting iTerm.app itself in the shared folder too but haven't tried it yet.

Update to 2025: Settings => General => Settings => Export|Import All Settings and Data.
