Hello,

I just installed iterm2. I'm very excited, but colors don't seem to be
working. The "basic colors" are working, but the ANSI colors don't
seem to affect anything. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Maybe check that your TERM variable is being set correctly?
Check Preferences -> profile -> Terminal -> "Report Terminal Type" is
set to '
xterm-color' or 'xterm-256color'. If that's correct, your shell init
files might
be messing with it.

Try 'echo $TERM' in your shell, and check it matches one of the values
above.

If it doesn't, you'll need to check your shell init files (.bashrc
and .bash_profile
assuming you're using the bash shell), and check for anything setting
TERM.

hope this helps,

Tom.

If you're using xterm-256color, try using the latest nightly build. It
installs a copy of the missing terminfo files not included in 10.5 and
10.6.

Unfortunately, neither of the above tips worked. I just noticed that
my regular terminal is w/o colors too.

'echo $TERM' outputs xterm-256color

My .bash_profile and .profile contain nothing about colors or the
$TERM variable. I have no .bashrc file in my user folder.

Any other ideas? Thanks!
Matt.

I don't think this is it, but check if you have "minimum contrast" set to 100% under prefs->profiles->colors.

If you use zsh as a shell program, this will help you.
In the zsh profile (~/.zshrc), add a following statement.

unset LSCOLORS

This fixed my color problem in the iTerm.
I think zsh changes the color setting with the 'ls' command.
