Actually it's the other way around here - the first tab is the
"Hotkey Window"-Profile and all tabs opened after that are in the
Default-profile.
Sorry for the confusion,so yes, I experience the same as most people.

In Prefs > Keys, the Hotkey profile is set to "Hotkey Window". I also
tried to close all tabs/windows and restarted iTerm to make sure nothing
got restored.
