<ffffffff> instead of : in iterm only on osx ventura 13.2.1

Suddenly since two weeks and no related config change i now get <ffffffff> when i try to type : this happens only in iterm2, os amd terminal prints this fine as expected

I have karabiner installer for switching opt and cmd keys on a windows key layout to mimic osx layout, but karabiner live events capture show the correct key pressed

I use a ANSI keyboard with SWERTY layout,  so : is mapped to pressing shift+option+ö

I wouldn't attribute the issues to the swerty keymapping per say since the problem only occurs in iterm2

please help i'm pulling my hair here 🙃

So i managed to finally find the issue, under settings / profiles / keys my left option key had been reconfigured from "normal" to Esc+
