Dearall,I've developed a utility named "Simple OpenLP Importer" to bulk import songs from normal text files into the openlp database. This use case arised because of the need in our church to import the existing lyrics stored in thousands of files. We managed to successfully import over 1000 songs using this tool into openlp database. It's developed using Java and lives at Currently there is no downloadable files yet but you can get the source and use Maven to build it.I also created a companion project named "Tamil Unicode Converter" that can extract data from powerpoint/impress/word/pdf etc and convert the text in "TamilBible" font into unicode and store them in ordinary text files. The project is hosted at hope this helps some of you.
Hi Gushie,I have to admit that I didn't take note of this feature either :-(.In our church, our lyrics were in "tamil" language that used non-unicode fonts and were in powerpoint files. We had a need to convert these lyrics en masse to unicode and I didn't find any offline tools for this need. To add to the complexity we had transliterated text as well to help people who can't read tamil text.So I created a command line tool called "Tamil Unicode Converter" that can extract text from powerpoint/word/pdf etc, convert only the tamil lyrics in them to unicode and store them in a flat file. I didn't want this tool to import songs to openlp to ensure that it can be useful to others as wellThen I needed a tool to read the text from all these text files and store them in openlp. Unfortunately I didn't notice the built-in "import" feature available in Open LP v2. So I created this tiny command line tool that can recursively navigate through a given directory and import the lyrics in plain text files found in them into the openlp database.Though it might be a duplicate effort, it helped me to understand some concepts about open lp database schema.I'm basically a Java developer but I'm learning Python so at some point of time I hope to contribute in some form to the Open LP community. It's great to be part of this wonderful community.
Hi GushieI have tried this feature, and It seems to do nothing with the test files I mocked up for it. I also have searched for documentation, and the doc I found was limited to opensong.Would you tell us what format the text should be in, or if there are any documents I missed. Thanks
Hi Prassad,That is an old tread. OpenLP can now import songs direct from Power Point files using the "Generic Document/Presentation" importer. Please see: -importer for more details. For your other questions please create a new forum thread under "General Discussion"
Hi phill, thanks for the quick answer. To import a song from PowerPoint etc. was never a problem if I imported a German song. But from what I read in the description of the "Tamil Unicode Converter" is, that this program is able to import the songs in the first place (as you already mentioned this feature is implanted in OpenLP itself) and most importantly in the next step, it convert the imported songs automatically in a Tamilunicode, so that I can at least put two language on one slide. If i get somehow this program to run, it would ease our work so much because we have already tons of PowerPoint Tamilsongs in Tamil language. Currently I have to copy a PowerPoint slide or document written in Tamil, paste it here
kandupidi.com/converter/ convert it to bamini Unicode, copy the converted text and finally past it in OpenLp Momently this is the only way that I see, to handle a multilingual Church service. But if I am wrong and this feature is already implemented in OpenLP (hopefully this sentence came true ;)), it would such a help.
