Hi All, Sat 7th Sept 2008 0740 hrs
In response to a query from one of the members, I sent the following reply a fottnight ago.
SWOT ANALYSIS FOR INDIA
S - Strength W - Weakness O - Opportunity T - Threat
S - Youth population 250 million; skilled manpower, English Speking segment; foreign language speaking segment, export-led companies, service-based industries, agriculture, entrepreneurial spirit.
W Mindset, change-resistance, lack of communication skill, averse to mobility, lack of independent thinking, lack of speed, knowledge gathering disabilty; violence; bureaucratic hurdles;
O - Galore: employment, industries mushromming, foreign investments in manufacturing, demand for Indian talents, employment for aged people, more educational institutions, more entrepreneurs, and for everyone; Many countries are loosening their rules to accommodate Indian talents.
T China, Philippines, Brazil Russia who can compete or even overtake if we dont wakeup from our slumber. Also lack of infrstructure faclities like good roads, highways, good airports(in the last three years, China has built world class roads keeping in mind the Olympic Games). lack of good hotels, variety of foods of different countries.
(For example: India received less than 5 million tourists last year 2007, but France received 78 million visitors in 2007; food and monuments are main attractions. Population of France is approx 80 million) Imagine the inflow of foreign exchange even if a visitor spends USD 1,000 during the stay.
