I also wanted to share the news related to launch of LAUNCH OF PG AND B.Sc IN TECHNICAL TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION at PUNJAB TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY, MOHALI CAMPUS, INDIA where I am playing a lead role in conceptualizing the courses and their delivery. The honorable Vice Chancellor of the university DR. Rajneesh Arora has taken keen interest in this area as there is huge gap between demand and supply of trained human resources in this area. Also, there is immediate requirement of 5 lac trained language professionals in India. (PG Diploma in Technical Translation and Interpretation Hindi/ Punjabi in combination with English), B.Sc. in Technical Translation ( Spanish/ French / German) in combination with English.
This is for the first time that such course has been launched in India. I am sure this will be of great help to 10+2 students as well as Post Graducate students who may like to take first mover advantage. Placement facility will be provided by the university.
It should be noted that Translation, Interpretation, localization, IT and newer technologies have added unprecedented dynamism in economic, social and cultural activities across the globe. “The role of translation becomes more critical when multinational companies need to contact their customers in real time in local languages. Therefore, it is quite evident that over the past decades, localization has progressed from being an added effort by some software publishers to a multi-billion dollar professional industry requiring numerous translators and interpreters at all levels.
