Gradirei avere informazioni sui programmi di scacchi per Mac. In particolare
c'è qualcuno che usa Hiarcs?

Esistono due ottime (almeno secondo me) proposte *freeware* per Mac:
MacChess 5.0.1 (http://members.aol.com/Macchess/) 522Kb
Sigma Chess Lite 5.1.3 (http://www.sigmachess.com/) 1.9Mb

MacChess e' disponibile anche in italiano, e gira anche sui vecchi
680x0.

SigmaChess e' un programma altamente configurabile,
con una bella grafica, database di aperture,
finali, gestione pgn/epd, scacchiera 2D/3D e molto altro...
E' valutato attorno a 2400 ELO. Inoltre e' prevista una versione
per MacOS X. Ne esiste anche una versione shareware (con piu'
funzionalita'
ovviamente).

Per gestire database di partite ci sono ExaChess Lite 2.1 (freeware,
1Mb) e
ExaChess Pro 2.1 (commerciale). Questi programmi possono essere anche
essere usati per l'analisi e il gioco, installando motori di gioco
come ad esempio il freeware
Crafty (http://www.exachess.com/downloads.html#engines), GnuChess o lo
stesso
Sigma Chess.

Hiarcs (http://www.acc-ltd.demon.co.uk/) e' commerciale
(come ChessMaster 6000, che esiste anche per Mac).
Io non l'ho mai usato, ma dicono che sia uno dei piu' forti
programmi di scacchi. Se sei proprio forte e non ti soddisfa
il livello del freeware, apri pure il portafogli...

Grazie per le esaurienti informazioni. Le due torri da me interpellate mi
hanno fatto sapere che Hiarcs non esiste in commercio da più di un anno e
che attualmente non sono in grado di reperire alcun programma commerciale
per Mac. A questo punto proverò qualche programma free e cercherò nel
mercato dell'usato.

I use to read this newsgroup, because I can read italian easily and I love
to do it, but I never learned italian in school or in a grammar book, so I
will not try to write in italian by now, due to my respect for the grammar
of this beautiful language. English is not my language too (I'm portuguese),
but at least I can construct some phrases...

Hiarcs 7 is by far the strongest chess software for Macintosh, Hiarcs 6 is
very close in strength. I have both.

Here you can buy Hiarcs 6 for Macintosh for 10 dollars including postage, I
bought mine there.
