"I was really pissed off".
Giusto?!

Dear Luca
You are correct in your understanding. In American English 'to be
pissed off' refers to anger, irritation.
In British English ' to be pissed' , means the person was drunk.

"to be pissed off" significa "to be annoyed, irritated, angry" of or by
someone
or something.
semplice
"to be pissed" - "Man, I was really pissed".
Purtroppo, "to be pissed" in GB/Aus significa "to be drunk" - ubriaco,
ebbro.
"pissed off" e` un termine volgare. Si puo` dire "cheesed off" o "browned
off"

semplicemente

frainteso=aggettivo
fraintendimento=nome
"c'e' fraintendimento" e' corretto, ma poco usato.
Sarebbe meglio usare un'altra espressione

tra madrelingua inglesi

significare
ma sarebbe meglio usare semplicemente
dire

I've discovered that you can't send a "wav" sound file to this newsgroup.

So, if you go to

http://www.thehellhole.com/sounds/index.html

and choose "Episode 218" and download the soundfile:

218_THUMB1.WAV

you will find an Australian character from the popular American comedy cartoon
show "South Park" using term "pissed off" several times. (Actually, I just tried
it and can't seem to download the file again, I hope it is just a temporary
problem.)

Do you get "South Park?" At times it is very funny if you have an irreverant
sense of humor and an appreciation of the absurd.

Ciao,

io direi che "to be pissed off" e' equivalente alla espressione italiana
"essere incazzato". Perfino le parti del corpo corrispondono. Ciao arianna

Is dejanews part of AOL? If it is, then that may be your problem.

Whenever I work with someone who has an AOL account all electronic communication
becomes unreliable. For email I suggest to them that they set up a Yahoo account
or get another ISP because AOL consistently trashes attachments. Their
proprietary network appears to be the problem. So far I've gotten several people
to drop their AOL accounts to their utlimate satisfaction. We are then able to
resume exchanging files without incident.

What is the point of sticking to this provider when there are so many other
better alternatives?

Ron, I wrote you and answer twice and it got lost each time. the first time
I don't know what happened, the second time it got lost while I was doing a
spell check. AOL is not the problem. Dejanews is the problem. you should
try it sometimes, if you feel like being a masochist sometimes. Some of the
posts lately have had no content, only the tilte, date (1970/01/01), the
author and nothing else. It's driving me crazy. I have spent hours (at
least 45 minutes only tonight) on posts that never made it to the NG. I am
very happy with aol. I have never experienced any of the problems people
cpomplain about. Moreover, the price is right ($20 a month for unlimited
usage). However, I will take your suggestion into consideration. bye Arianna
PS sorry about the off topic message, but I did write it in
English.......that's better than nothing

"Pissed off" vuol dire esattamente quello che hai scritto. In Inghilterra è
importante aggiungiere "off" perché "pissed" da solo vuol dire "ubriaco" come
nell'espressione "pissed as a newt", mentre in America sia "pissed" che "pissed off"
significato attraversando l'Atlantico (fag, rubber).

ciao

Having just had occasion to reply to Er Roscio, it should be noted also that ' to be pissed' (drunk) and ' to be pissed off at someone/something ' (angry/irritated) should not be confused with ' to take the piss out of someone/something.'
The latter meaning to make fun of someone/something.
