If I take HA Linux cluster with 2 nodes A+B with redundant channels,
I'd like knowing if it's possibile to ping machines group which
contains the other node + a pc on lan. Service 1 is on A, while 2 on
B.
I already read in ha.cf this note: don't use a cluster node as ping
node !
But, if from B server I can ping external ethernet interface of node
A, I'm almost sure that my lan is alive because this ping interface is
linked to my lan, while if I have no answer so I can ping another
machine in my lan and accordinf to this answer I can decide if node is
or not alive.
I'm interesting to check my external eth. interfaces on nodes with
ipfail module, but only the opposite inetrface + another pc on lan;
from A I ping ext eth of B + another pc on lan, and from B I ping ext
eth of A + another pc on lan.
I know that ping group must be the same for both A and B !

Sure, because ping nodes are intended to be used to check network
availability to reach the clients that need Your services, then usually
the ping nodes are the phisical address of your external routers, because
(again usually) servers are located in a DMZ or in another network then
final clients. Finally the nodes must be connected with a direct ethernet
cross cable for the heartbeat link ed use the ip on this link is really a
bad idea.

Therefore You can use any ip you like to do the check if your needed are
different. But i repeat my suggest: use mon daemon! It is script driven
and then you can do more intelligent check with it.

ErConte

P.S.
Sorry for my bad english but this is wath i've learned at scool!! ;-)

erConte,
my purpose is to ping external ethernet interface of node, NOT
internal interface !

For example having 2 node servers:
A:
eth0: 10.0.0.1 (internal interface linked to the other node with
cross cable)
eth1: 192.168.45.20 (external interface linked to lan switch)

B:
eth0: 10.0.0.2 (internal interface linked to the other node with
cross cable)
eth1: 192.168.45.21 (external interface linked to lan switch)

I have good chance my lan is alive, if from A I ping 192.168.45.21
with success answer.
I should ping the other server via lan, not by cross link ! In this
way I suppose my lan works !
I could add another host in my lan to test as ping machine together
server nodes.
