There is little historical record of the death of Jesus, so it's pretty hard
to say.
It was a pretty minor event at the time.

Whipping someone until their skin is shredded to point that the rib cage
is exposed and expecting that person carry a 200lb cross for several
miles while crtically injured and dehydrated is not realistic.
