Job Description:

A large Texas State agency is seeking a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to support Data Center Operations within the AI & Application Platform for Excellence (APEX) team. This role plays a key part in advancing cloud adoption by supporting cloud migrations, modernization efforts, and steady-state operations across AWS and Azure environments.

You will collaborate with internal teams, application owners, and cloud providers to design, implement, secure, and optimize cloud solutions across IaaS, PaaS, and serverless architectures.

 

Key Responsibilities:

·         Design, implement, and support cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure (IaaS, PaaS, serverless)

·         Lead and support application migrations from on-premise environments to cloud platforms

·         Configure, monitor, and optimize cloud services, ensuring performance, security, and compliance

·         Collaborate with engineering teams on new cloud projects and ongoing operations

·         Develop and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform, ARM, or similar tools

·         Implement automation and scripting (Bash, PowerShell, CLI tools, etc.)

·         Support Kubernetes clusters, containerized applications, and microservices architectures

·         Perform cloud remediation activities to address vulnerabilities and compliance gaps

·         Utilize monitoring tools (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Dynatrace) to maintain system health

·         Provide on-call support on a rotational basis (after-hours/weekends as needed)

·         Maintain alignment with organizational security policies and cloud best practices

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure required; GCP/OCI a plus)

·         Hands-on expertise in:

o    Cloud networking, architecture, and service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, serverless)

o    CI/CD pipelines and DevOps methodologies

o    Containerization & Kubernetes (deployment, scaling, maintenance)

·         Strong automation and scripting skills:

o    Bash, PowerShell, CLI tools, or similar

·         Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools:

o    Terraform, Ansible, Docker, ARM templates

·         Knowledge of cloud monitoring and logging tools

·         Experience with cloud security, compliance, and disaster recovery strategies

·         Familiarity with data services and ETL/ELT frameworks

·         Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or Oracle)
  • Experience with Texas state agencies (especially HHSC)
  • Exposure to:
    • Data platforms (Azure Data Factory, AWS Kinesis, Google Data Fusion, etc.)
    • SQL/NoSQL databases and data lakes
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment
