I am still new to the internet and there is a lot to confuse the late starter. I started off with Telecom and their service was notable for being stuffed full with jargon, a helpline that connected you to a call centre in India using people who often couldn’t speak English, charged you for every part of a minute while it was often them speaking amongst themselves and was generally intolerable. I asked a friend who was a programmer – he said the service that he used was reliable but as he moved great chunks of data it cost £90/month. Nobody has a good word to say about Talk Talk, AOL is a byword for overloaded & until I found plus-net I was ready to give up entirely, however the internet is still inhuman & intimidating to elderly users so I am in need of collaborators in a project called elderpool.com which will try to bring humanity in from the cold. We are an ever growing proportion of the population as you recognise, so look around the website & see if you can help. If you can help please join. I am, as the current owner in the fortunate position of not needing to make money out of the project and it is constructed as a cooperative so early members will be treated generously. Don’t concentrate on the negatives, of which there are many due to my novice status, but focus on the ideas. My work experience convinces me that an enthusiastic amateur can sometimes see things that the raddled professional regards as impossible or never thinks about.
