1. I saved the example in my home directory and there it shows as
*.tar.gz. When starting a new gambas session, say open project and click
that file an error message comes up. How do I store a project correctly?
2. Trying to use the Iconeditor (or F12) has no effect (or opens a
search window?). With the given example, clicking the *.png entry under
data opens the *.png and the iconeditor. But the toolswindow of the
editor is so small so that it hardly usable I was not able to resize
it. Is there a solution?
Thanks!

The project is read-only...
Maybe you saved the PACKAGE and not the project. Have you choose
"Project/Make source archive"?
If yes, it's normal that you cannot open that file. It's an archive
(like ZIP under Windows systems).
You can create a new project, copy the source code of Scripting in it
and then try to save this project using "File/Save project". Choose a
directory and a name and you'll save some files like in Visual Basic.

I'm able to open the iconeditor only double-clicking on an image file,
as you reported (I also get the LDE search window if I click on F12 key
instead of Icon editor).
Speaking about iconeditor toolbar sizes I don't have tiny controls:
icons have the same size of the other Gambas IDE icons.

Well, I got it someway working. But its more or less by trial and error.

Well, when I double-click an image file the editor opens full size AND(!) a
small window opppens that contains a color-table and a collection of tools
to work with in the iconeditor-window. This windows is about 2 cm wide and
it is just not possible to have access to all color-fields and probably all
tools. I cant zoom it up - lets say to a 5 cm width. Hopefully you
understand the problem.
Thanks so far.

1)
Which version of Gambas do you use? I work with 1.9.45.
2)
When I double-click on an image inside the Gambas IDE, a tab opens in
the Gambas workbench: this tab contains the image that I'm working on
and the toolbar at the top. But I can choose the zoom of the image using
the toolbar itself (the 7th tools is the dropdown-menu zoom).

We probably are talking about different window-arrangements.
Please have a look here:
http://www.mydarc.de/dj1wm/iconeditor.png
I mean the small toolbox-window for the iconeditor in the center of the
image about the the size of a cigarette-box in sideview.
I didnt find a way to enlarge it to be sure that all tools and colors from
the color-palette are visible. Do you have it the same size?
Wait a moment... Your Gambas isn't the newest one.
Starting from Gamabas... ehm... something around then 1.9.4x, the IDE
application is in a new MDI look and all the windows open inside a
central workbench. The icon editor follows this way of working too and
the toolbar of that window appears in a bar at the top of the window,
just below the tabs bar, with the buttons of a discrete size.
I suggest you to uninstall the Suse version of Gambas (Benoit hisself
suggests not to use the Suse versions), download the sources and compile
Gambas yourself, so that you can use the new look of Gambas and solve
this problem.

Hi Leo,
thanks for this info. I shall try to uninstall and install a new
version. I already saw something in gambas.sourceforge.net. Hopefully
I am able to proceed with the compilation and installation. I didnt
try that yet for the first time.
Thanks again!
If you installed Gambas from RPM you should have any required package to
compile Gambas from sources.
I would like to suggest you to read this document:
http://gambasdoc.org/help/readme
You'll find all (or almost) the required dependencies to compile Gambas.
Remember that some components could not be compiled due to some Suse
10.1 libraries that don't match the minimum version numbers required
Gambas: i.e., I'm not able to compile Firebird and GTK.SVG components...
