I do not feel qualified to talk about this subject. I have never
taught special needs students or had experience with them.

I have been in a special education for the past thirteen years and
have seen technology grow by leaps and bounds. There are so many
forms of technology geared especially for special students that can
help from communication to mobility. We had a student for 2 years and
never heard him speak a word, when he was five we were given a
communication board that also had a keyboard. Once it was set up, we
were showing him the basic features such as yes or no. We were so
shocked when he typed out “I am hungry, I want cookie.” We also have
a touch screen for the computer that is wonderful for students with
poor motor skills.

I believe that some special needs students are getting the technology
needed to succeed in everyday life if the school they are in has the
funding. I do not think that special need students in low
socioeconomic status schools are getting all the technology that could
benefit them for the future. I think that special need students should
have special equipment in place that helps them learn to the best of
their ability. There should be special attention for special need
students every day in the classroom.
