The DC Universe Animated Original Movies (DCUAOM; also known as DC Universe Original Movies or DC Universe Movies or DC Animated Movies) are a series of American direct-to-video superhero animated films based on DC Comics characters and stories. From 2007 to 2022, films were produced primarily by Warner Bros. Animation, but subsequently fell under DC Studios Animation. Many films are usually stand-alone projects that are either adaptations of popular works or original stories. From 2013 to 2020, the DC Animated Movie Universe was a subset of this series featuring several films that took place in a shared universe, influenced predominantly by "The New 52". Following the DCAMU's conclusion, the Tomorrowverse was launched the same year, beginning with Superman: Man of Tomorrow.
Unlike earlier animated DC films (most of which also involved Bruce Timm and were part of the DC animated universe), the films in the line are aimed at a more adult audience, often containing profane language, stronger violence, sexual scenes and more mature themes. The art styles for the films are also generally more realistically proportionate. The majority of the films are rated PG-13 by the MPAA with the exception of All-Star Superman and Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, which are rated PG, and Batman: The Killing Joke, Justice League Dark, Batman: Gotham by Gaslight, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay, Justice League Dark: Apokolips War, Batman: Soul of the Dragon, Batman: The Long Halloween, Part Two, Injustice, and Justice League: Warworld, which are rated R. Many of the films are adapted from stories originally featured in DC print comics and graphic novels. As of 2022[update], 47 feature films and fourteen short films have been released, with additional films slated for future releases until 2023.
Warner Bros. announced in April 2017 an R-rated animated film based on the graphic novel of the same name.[12] The animated adaptation was confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con 2023 and is scheduled for release in 2024.[13]

The DC Universe franchise continues its successful tradition of crafting animated movies, with several upcoming confirmed projects in 2023. While a lot of the previous DCEU live-action movies, such as Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, have been divisive, the DC animated films have been mostly positively received by critics and audiences. A total of six animated movies were released by DC in 2022, including DC League of Super-Pets, Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, and Catwoman: Hunted, a self-contained story with no connections to any universe.

Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham is an adaption of the comic book arc of the same name from DC Comics. The Mike Mignola and Richard E. Pace comic was released in 2000, and it places Batman in a period adventure set in 1928. Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham features some of the most famous Batman villains, such as the Penguin and Mr. Freeze, reimagined as Lovecraftian figures. The animated Batman: The Doom That Came To Gotham is a standalone feature with no connections to the current DC animated universe, and released on Blu-ray and Digital mediums on March 28, 2023.
Justice League: Warworld is the sixth movie of DC's Tomorrowverse, and is the first Justice League movie in this chronology. After introducing Superman, Martian Manhunter, Flash, Wonder Woman, and Batman in previous Tomorrowverse movies, the franchise initially skipped the formation of the Justice League - as seen in Green Lantern: Beware My Power. The movie has received mixed reception for its more anthology-styled approach to its storyline, though this doesn't appear to have stopped the production of its sequel, Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, which releases alongside a slew of other DC Universe movies in 2024.
Continuing the theme of DC animated crossovers, Scooby-Doo! and Krypto, Too! features a team-up between Scooby-Doo and Superman's dog Krypto, allowing the pair of iconic pooches to go on their own adventure. The movie was one of the many direct-to-dvd feature films that saw the Scooby-Doo gang enter another universe, and saw itself in a seemingly fraught position during the early restructuring of the DC Universe, with rumors circulating that it was set to be canceled for tax write-off purposes. However, this didn't turn out to be the case - which was confirmed in July 2023, months before its release in September.
DC comics has a vast catalog of animated films adapted from fan-favorite comics, including Superman: Red Son, Batman: The Long Halloween and Justice League: The New Frontier. These straight-to-video movies usually boast impressive animated worlds and great casts.
DC's animated movies have been greeted with broadly positive reviews, and fans are always happy to see iconic fan-favorite comics brought to life. However, despite this, tons of brilliant DC comics have yet to see such adaptations. DC has a huge bedrock of great comics to draw from, and the only piece left of the puzzle would be to figure out which stories deserve to be adapted.
While James Wan's Aquaman made a billion dollars at the box office, the King of the Seven Seas hasn't had much of an impact on animation. Aquaman often appears as part of the Justice League in the team's animated efforts, but he rarely gets a chance to shine in his own adaptations.
Morrison is in top form as they concoct all sorts of sci-fi concepts in this complex yet adventurous comic, and anyone looking to adapt such a work would have to go all out. If a DC animated adaption of Flex Mentallo: Muscle Man Of Mystery committed to the bizarre and beautiful world of Morrison and Quitely created, the fans will come.
Wonder Woman is really lacking when it comes to solo animated features, but with the live-action Wonder Woman films starring Gal Gadot proving to be hugely successful, DC should try their hand at adapting more of the character's material. And where better to start than Renae De Liz's The Legend Of Wonder Woman?
Batgirl: Year One is very different from traditional Batman origins, and it's a much more playful look at Gotham City than most are used to. Barbara's character, strength, and humor are really well captured, and the art style is colorful and lively, which would work well in animated form.
Any adaptation of such a raw comic would need to hit the nail on the head when it comes to animation. Talented artists and animators could really take Dave McKean's twisted and terrifying comic book artwork to another level. Such a unique-looking animated film would be a great project to greenlight.

This research was analytical descriptive by using inductive reasoning. The research stages covered data collection, analysis, and conclusion. From the research, it was found that many findings of archaeological researches in Indonesia were adopted in movies and animation. While many archaeological researchers have used comics and animation, the public also has used the technology using archaeological findings. The use of comics and animated movies in archaeology would attract youngsters to get to know archaeology. Archaeology is potential to audience target of popular culture in Indonesia as many youths have pride in their culture while being curious about their ancestral culture.
I talk a lot about how superhero movies need to adapt into different genres in order to survive, and this is a perfect example in animated form. This isn't a superhero film so much as a hard-boiled detective film in superhero clothes. Chris Meloni makes a terrific Hal Jordan while Victor Garber is a dynamite Sinestro. The film operates as a police procedural, with Jordan learning the ropes through investigation rather than labored exposition. It plays like a high class film noir, and it's the rare DCAU feature that is a straight-up original story.
Yes, there is way too much Batman in the twenty DCAU features. But if you must watch a Batman DVD animated feature from this line-up, make it this one. Most of the DCAU films are adaptations from popular comic arcs. This one improves on the source material. Yes, it's still the same absurd "Jason Todd is back from the dead" stuff which pits a newly resurrected Robin against Black Mask, the Joker, and Batman. But since this is just a one-off story, it's not invalidating 15 years of comic continuity in the bargain.
