Dr Ian Douglas is a Senior Lecturer in Aviation Management at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. His research and teaching areas include air transport economics, airline distribution strategy, and airline fleet and schedule planning. He also serves as a Commissioner of the Australian International Air Services Commission, the agency responsible for the allocation of international traffic rights to Australian carriers.
Before joining UNSW Aviation, Dr Douglas taught strategy in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Technology Sydney and at Shanghai University. He has been a consultant for Malaysia Airlines, Thai Airways International, Bain & Co Singapore, Icebox Advertising Los Angeles, and Tourism Queensland. He is currently advising Myanmar-based Asian Wings Airways as it develops a joint venture with All Nippon Airways of Japan. Prior to academia and consulting, Dr Douglas had a 25 year career with Qantas. There his senior management roles covered strategic planning, the joint venture with British Airways, and pricing strategy for the European route group. He also spent two years based in London as marketing manager Europe.
