Attack on Titan is about to end for good. The hilariously-titled Final Chapters Special 2 (or Shingeki No Kyojin episode 89, if you're following along with its original Japanese title), has been quite literally years in the making. To help prepare you for the big day, we've got a complete guide to the return of Attack on Titan season 4 - and its farewell episode.

If we were to speculate, we'd wager it drops after 5:00 PM Pacific/8:00 PM Eastern. That will be midnight BST in the UK. Why? Because the episode airs at midnight JST in Japan and the UK release is slated for Sunday, November 5 instead of November 4. Curious...

The end is almost near for Attack on Titan. After 10 years of epic battles, jaw-dropping twists and fist-pumping moments, the final episode of Attack on Titan is premiering this weekend. The final installment of the hit anime series will bring to a close the story of Eren Yeager and the Survey Corps, and decide the fate of humanity.

If you can't wait to tune in, Crunchyroll has confirmed the exact time the final episode of Attack on Titan will drop on its service, with the last ever episode set to debut in a matter of hours. And if that wasn't enough to get you hyped, a new trailer for the AoT finale has also been released, and it's been revealed exactly how long the last ever episode will be.

It has been confirmed that the release time for the final episode of Attack on Titan is 5pm pacific time on Saturday 4 November 2023. The exact time the episode will drop was confirmed by Crunchyroll in the run-up to the finale's premiere.

The Attack on Titan finale will wrap up the story that began in the very first episode of AoT, where monstrous titans breached the walls of Eren, Mikasa and Armin's homeland, turning their whole world upside down. To bring everything to a close, animation studio MAPPA has produced a feature-length episode of AoT. It's been confirmed the finale will have a runtime of 85 minutes.

The upcoming Attack on Titan finale will follow on from the events of the previous, hour-long episode which was released in March. That episode is officially titled 'The Final Chapters: Special 1' with the episode premiering this weekend called 'The Final Chapters: Special 2'.

The final episode of Attack on Titan will be available to watch on Crunchyroll, and also on Hulu. To watch the AoT finale you will need to have a Crunchyroll Premium plan or a Hulu membership. Both services are priced from $7.99 a month and offer free trials to new members.

If you've not seen an episode of Attack on Titan before, and want to see what all the fuss is about, you can watch the first season entirely for free with ads on Crunchyroll. Simply head to the Attack on Titan page on Crunchyroll and select an episode from the first season to watch it ad-supported.

That's it for our guide to the Attack on Titan final episode. For more AoT content, check out our Attack on Titan watch order, or find out what the series creator Hajime Isayama had to say during his first-ever US appearance at Anime NYC last year. If you're into cosplay, we've also got a guide on how to cosplay as Mikasa Ackerman.

Hajime Isayama's Attack on Titan has a legacy almost as complicated as the series' own history. Even more complex still is the series' relationship to time and place, which became more and more distorted as protagonist-turned-antagonist Eren Yeager amassed ever more incredible Titan Shifter powers, including being able to see both forward and backward in time, to a certain extent. With this knowledge, fans have been able to reassess even the most foundational elements of Attack on Titan, such as the meaning of the series' first manga chapter and anime episode's shared title, "To You, 2,000 Years From Now."

"To You, 2,000 Years From Now" was a strange name when both the first chapter and adapted episode were released (it's slightly altered for the anime), and it remains odd throughout much of the rest of Attack on Titan. 2,000 years from when? And to whom does "you" refer? Before the manga concluded in 2021, time-travel theories were abundant in the series' fandom, and for good reason. That title alone implies some kind of future sight which, before Eren unlocked the full powers of two of his Titans and confirmed this to be the case, were compounded by small yet significant clues: Ymir's discovery of tinned food in a foreign language at Utgard Castle insinuated the existence of an advanced culture in the past or present, while Eren Kruger's foreknowledge of Armin Alert and Mikasa Ackerman's names years before they were born teased the Attack Titan's true, time-manipulating power. Thus, the truth about what "to you, in 2000 years" means is far more than simply the coincidental title of a chapter from the manga.

Attack on Titan Voice Actors Break Down in Tears Delivering Parting Words Season 4 of the Attack on Titan anime brought the story to an end, though fans had to wait a bit for it. Produced by the animation studio MAPPA instead of Wit Studio like the first three seasons, this selection of episodes adapted the remainder of the manga's story. This was highly anticipated due to just how prolific the series had been, with many pointing to Attack on Titan's success as helping anime become more mainstream in the 2010s. Despite this reverence, there were some changes from the source material, some of which fans consider to be for the better. Both the anime and the original manga for Attack on Titan had many traumatic and tragic elements in their conclusions, but differing elements made them have a lot of divergence.

Reiner pulls his hood back when fighting the female titan: Armin had advised Reiner and Jean to keep their hoods pulled up all the way, because he felt the female would not kill anyone without knowing who they are. Despite that, Reiner pulls his hood back when attacking the female titan. We know the reason for that now: he wanted Annie to recognise him.

While several anime franchises include lots of skippable content (the Naruto filler list includes hundreds of episodes), don't even think about skipping any episodes in the main Attack on Titan run. Every scene and pretty much every moment ends up being pivotal in some way, even if you can't see why until years later.

For previous seasons, English releases fell roughly a month after the Japanese debut for each episode, but given the extensive gap between the Japanese original and the English dub, it may be some time before part 2's dub drops, potentially even 2024.

What we haven't included is the anime movies released between seasons, because they're effectively just a recap of the anime and, honestly, you'd be doing yourself a disservice by missing out on all the vital details contained in each individual episode.

Season 4, part 1 ended with Eren in his Attack Titan form preparing to confront the incoming military forces of Marley, who were seeking revenge for the attack on Liberio. Part 2 picks up from there, as the Marleyan forces, led by Rainer Braun, launch a full-blown attack on the island of Paradis.

Back to the battle, we also see the heroic death of Porco, as he sacrifices himself to save the life of Falco Grice. Falco, who had drunk some of the wine and became a pure titan when Zeke screamed, inherits the Jaw Titan.

A group of scouts hustle on their horses towards a Titan in a dense forest. The group splits into a decoy team and an attack team. The men use their Three Dimensional Maneuver Gear to attack the Titan's nape. Eren wakes up from a nightmare and notices Mikasa near his side. Mikasa asks Eren why he is crying. In town, Eren asks Mikasa to not tell anyone he cried. Then Hannes asks Eren if Mikasa is mad at him. Eren notices that Hannes and his gang are drinking alcohol and yells at them to be more vigilant about the Titans if they breach the wall. Hannes states that the Titans cannot climb over the 50-meter wall and that they are safe. Eren remarks that they are living in these walls like cattle. After Eren and Mikasa leave, Hannes realizes that Eren wants to join the Survey Corps. Mikasa asks Eren to reconsider.

Suddenly, a crash is heard. The villagers watch as a Colossal Titan peeps its head over the 50-meter wall. The enormous titan kicks the wall. As a result, a hole in Wall Maria is exposed for the smaller Titans to invade Shiganshina District. The towns people run for their lives at the sight of the Titans. Eren runs towards his home to find his mother with Mikasa following him. Upon arriving home, Eren finds his mother trapped beneath the rubble. Carla urges them to run away and to leave her because her legs are crushed to the extent that she will be only holding them back. Eren desperately tries to lift the roof off Mikasa. Hannes arrives to slay the Titan that approaching Eren and his family. However, he stops after being intimidated by the Titan. Hannes rushes to grab Mikasa and Eren. Carla thanks Hannes and cries after they leave her. The Titan pulls Carla from the rubble and snaps Carla in half. Eren watches in horror as the Titan chomps his mother into pieces.
