Dear Prabhus, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

The
VedaBase Works with Windows 7!

Here's how to do it:

1. If you have Windows 7 Home Basic or Home Premium, you must upgrade to Windows 7 Professional, Business or Ultimate.

2. Download and install two free programs from Microsoft
: Windows XP Mode andWindows Virtual PC.

3. With Windows XP Mode running under Windows Virtual PC you get a window which looks exactly like a Windows XP desktop.

4. With the Windows XP Virtual Desktop active, install the VedaBase as usual.

Once it's installed, you no longer have to run Windows XP Mode / Windows Virtual PC separately. They are automatically loaded whenever you load the VedaBase!  :-)

Sorry about that. The link to the two free programs from Microsoft in #2 below was bad. Here's the correct link:

Thanks Prabhu. I been without the Vedabase for most of this year
because I couldn't get it to run on Vista. Any tips?

As far as I know, there is no way to get the Vedabase to work under Windows Vista. Therefore, you have to install Windows XP, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Business or Windows 7 Ultimate.

Dear Prabhu, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Great!

I never used Windows Vista, but I heard it second hand that the VedaBase didn't work using Vista.

Please give us step-by-step instructions on exactly how to do it.

in compatability mode, maybe emulating Windows XP.  Presumably the run
file would be set to the same compatability.  I recently reformatted
my kid's computer and haven't reinstalled the Vedabase on it, so I'll
try and see what works.  But I guarantee that it definitely can be
done, and it works flawlessly.

Pratyatosh,

A few questions:

The link you gave to the Vedabase:  It appears to be the Folio window's version, not a DOS version I saw floating around.

So, I may be out of the loop,   but, is the BBT putting this out for free now?  Or is this a sort of bootlegged (as in Warez) product?

Is it the latest BBT version?

And who is David Bruce Hughes -  is he taking disciples?

BTW - I never updated my Folio Vedabase for years,   I have version 4.11   I think '-j'      And I was running on Vista -64 and 32 fine,   and have been using on Windows 7 (Premium)  (both Beta copy and legal copy of RC versions) for almost a year now.   No problem.  Just ran the install under XP compatible mode, and set the program as XP compatible.     I have not tried to install the version in your link yet,  but will give it a try.  I don't have a copy of final release version of Win 7 (although we do have a copy of the Enterprise release beta).

The version of Folio I have originally came with a Parallel port dongle (e-Yuk),  and so i have to install the Hasp software that the BBT supplied, and it is that driver that gives the most headache running on Vista and Win7.

PS:
For those who run Rocket Dock (http://rocketdock.com/)
I have attached an ICON i created for the Vedabase - Prabhupad reading his SB,   It is a transparent PNG file,  which RocketDock uses.  To make it an Icon file for windows, just rename the extension from .png to .ico   (although this is 500x500 pixels,  and may need to be made smaller for windows?)

It's a cracked version. It installs automatically, including the special fonts, with no kind of key needed.

Is it the latest BBT version?

As far as I know, yes.

And who is David Bruce Hughes -  is he taking disciples?

Yes, he is accepting disciples. He is setting a good example by following Srila Prabhupada's example, and starting his own institution completely separate from ISKCON. He is a very nice devotee, and he's not a ritvik basher.

Dear prabhus,

I know there are different DOS-Vedabases and different Windows-Vedabases.

Does anyone know what is the Windows-Vedabase WITHOUT the bogus BBT books, just all the originals?

Also does it contain all the lectures and letters of Srila Prabhupada?

Thanks,

Dear Urdhvaga Prabhus, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

Concerning http://p.esotericteaching.org/, Pre-1978_Books_Only.rar has the unchanged books, but no lectures or letters. Vedabase2003.rar has the
lectures and letters, but has the changed version of the books.

Unfortunately, no version of the VedaBase exists with the most complete version of the tape transcriptions and the letters together with the unchanged books. Perhaps you could try suggesting such a version to the Bhaktivedanta Archives.

By the way, I don't see anything wrong with going to a public sauna, as you have been accused of doing. Saunas are very beneficial to our health. How is it any different,
for the sake of proper bodily maintenance, from going to a karmi doctor or to a public hospital?

The shadow file allows the user to delete whatever is not required.
You can also add whatever books/txt you prefer.
Takes a bit of time to do but worth it if you want to make your own
folio.

Dear July9th Prabhu, Hare Krishna! Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada!

A version of the VedaBase with only the unchanged books, the tape transcriptions and the letters would be great. If you would be so kind as to explain to me how to do it, I'll try to get it done and make it available to the forum members.

What books/txt do you require to add to the file.

Once that is done you can delete what you don't want,
I deleted the Dutch Bg the other books I keep for reference.

I am also re-arranging a file which I will post for those who require.
Just now I am moving the hyperlinks for Bg to the McMillan 1972,
rather than to the JAS version.
Then I will move the CC links to the 1975 CC.
Those who want to make there own file I will try to explain.

I think that is there, done by the archives.

At http://causelessmercy.com/ you have a list of books but you don't
state which editions they are.

What I was trying to say is that as far as I can see everything you
have on your site is already on the vedabase.
The vedabase specifies which edition of the books, year of printing,
whereas on your site http://causelessmercy.com you haven't.

How about if I simply say, right at the top of the index page, "The Unchanged versions of Srila Prabhupda's books."

The questions remain - WHICH VERSION, WHICH PRINTING, WHEN PRINTED?
It would clarify the issue if you could be specific on this.

Not true.  http://p.esotericteaching.org/ includes 2 different versions. Vedabase2003.rar contains the tape transcriptions and the letters, but not the unchanged books. Pre-1978_Books_Only.rar contains the unchanged books, but not the tape transcriptions and letters.

What we want is a VedaBase version with the unchanged books, but also including the tape transcriptions and letters

Have you got it installed from <http://p.esotericteaching.org/> ?
If so check the list in the browse window and tell me how many
categories are listed?
Should be 33 or 34.

15. EARLY EDITIONS OF BBT ...... is it not there?

I assumed it was the same file as the size of the files is the same.
By that I mean to say that the vedabase file from from <http://
p.esotericteaching.org/>
is the same size as the vedabase file from the archives.

34.

15. EARLY EDITIONS OF BBT ......  is it not there?

15. EARLY EDITIONS OF BBT ... is there.

I'm trying to download the Vedabse from the link you provided [http://

Thank you very much.
