PAMHO AGTSP
Let me introduce myself as
Bala, a neophyte who has just joined the group.
Thanks for
your input and for sustaining the discussion about converting a
transliterated text into its Devanagari form.
I am familiar
with Itranslator, and I use it almost on a daily basis--mostly by
keyboard input (Itrans) to generate texts in transliteration (with
diacritics) and Devanagari. No problem there. Below is a sample:
+++++++++++++++++++++
Panel 1 – Itrans input ++++++++++++++++++++++++
svabhaavaM
parabhaavam ca bhaavaM caabhaavameva ca .
ye pashyanti na
pashyanti te tattvaM bhuddhashaasane ..
+++++++++++++++++++++
End of Panel 1 +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++
Panel 2 – Transliteation +++++++++++++++++++++++
svabhāvaṁ
parabhāvam ca bhāvaṁ cābhāvameva ca |
ye paśyanti na paśyanti te
tattvaṁ bhuddhaśāsane ||
++++++++++++++++++++ End of Panel
2++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
++++++++++++++++++++++
Panel 3 – Devanagari ++++++++++++++++++++++
स्वभावं
परभावम् च भावं चाभावमेव च।
ये पश्यन्ति न पश्यन्ति ते तत्त्वं
भुद्धशासने॥
++++++++++++++++++++++ End of Panel 3
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Recently I downloaded a large
text in transliterated (UTF-8) format and I wanted to convert the text
into Devanagari. When I tried the “Reverse conversion” (Itranslator 2003
Beta), I ran into some problems. As you know, the conversion tool has
three panes (Devanagari to ITRANS, Transliteration to ITRANS and
Devanagari to Transliteration). I copied part of the transliterated text
on the second panel, converted the text into ITRANS, went back to the
regular input panels and tried to convert the text into Devanagari. I do
get a decent output, but there are too many awkward line-breaks (mostly
on “anusvāras”). It is rather tedious, unless I have to, to implement
the corrections if the text is too large. Hence my query to find out if
there is more than one way to skin the cat, so to speak.
I
have tried to explain the problem to the best of my ability. If you
detect that I am doing something incorrectly, please let me know.
Warm
regards to both of you.
Your servant, Pratyatosa Dasa

Dear Bala,
I understand your problem.
I suggest you go to http://www.uni-hamburg.de/Wiss/FB/10/IndienS/Kniprath/INDOLIPI/Indolipi.htm
Download the manual and use the Macros to transpose the UTF-8 to
Devanagari.
The macros only work if you use MS Word in Windows.
If you use another Operating system try finding a word processor
program that will do search and replace of UTF-8 Unicode diacritic
letters and either do it manually or create your own macro. I use J-
edit X for Mac OS X. I'm sure there are editors for any operating
system that supports Unicode that can do this. I would suggest that
you transcode the UTF-8 to Itrans and then from Itrans to any Indian
script (including Devanagari).
Of course it is also possible to make macros to directly change UTF-8
Roman diacritics to Devanagari or any other Indian script. There are
also some html based programs on the internet that can do this.
sincerely
Gaura Keshava das

(http://www.uni-hamburg.de/Wiss/FB/10/IndienS/Kniprath/INDOLIPI/Indolipi.htm)
is also not working.
Can you help in any way. I have already send the feedback to the site www.uni-hamburg.de and waiting for their reply.
