Why Did Dwarka Sink?

Queen Gandhari's curse on Lord Krishna.

When the Battle of Kurukshetra was at a near end, Queen Gandhari came to the battle field devastated that her 99 sons (except Duryodhan) were killed by Bheem. When Lord Krishna went to offer his condolences, Gandhari in asked Lord Krishna why he did not end the war before her sons were killed? ... since it was within his power to do so.

While it may have been King Dhritarastra's  fate to be born blind and have his 100 sons killed in this life time, it was not the karma of Gandhari.  Gandhari did nothing in her past lives nor in her current life to merit such a tragedy. In her rage, Gandhari cursed Krishna. Understandably, she wanted Krisna to feel the same pain she felt. Thus, Krishna saw his entire Yadava clan,  die in front of his eyes and his kingdom burnt to ashes. He and his brother were left with no lineage to rule. All of Krishna's sons died in a massive fight in Dwaraka.

Then, Krishna fled to the forest without any weapons. There in the forest, unarmed, he was killed by a hunter and later, the entire city of Dwaraka sank into the sea along with many devotees. The remaining Yadavas, who survived the war were in chaos and misery. Lord Krishna, had the power to nullify the curse, but instead, accepted it.

So the question is, why did Krisna not stop the Battle of Kurushetra before the blood shed? And why would he flee Dwarka, abandoning all of his disciples, when he knew it would sink? And why would Srila Prabhupada give an incomplete teaching, on karma, when this example clearly illustrates the opposite of what it says in most of his purports? Those are the questions I am posing to anyone who may have an answer.

Dear Brenda,

The only answer that i, an amateur in Krishna consciousness, can suggest is Srila Prabhupada always showed us the positive side or the bright side of every thing. And sometimes its better to be ignorant than to know the truth. Better we tiny human beings with our limited brains pray to bright side of Krishna and may he come one day and take us to his eternal abode. Once we are there, we can surely ask him these questions, because i am more than sure NOBODY in this world will be able to answer these questions in unbiased way. Better we chant and go to Krishna and clear our doubts - why he was dark in color, why he put peacock feather and not any other and why only flute, why did Parikshit Maharaj put dead snake in Sage's neck, the list is unlimited but I am sure Krishna has answers to these.

Hope i could pacify you a bit. Your arguments and questions are all valid but you are asking for the perfect justification in this imperfect world with disturbed human beings having screwed brains and mentalities :)

Hare Krishna.

Hare Krishna. I give credit to the introspection of Brenda. But yes. Very few of us take the time to study these things as we should, due to being disturbed, with screwed brains and mentalities, thinking that we are men or women and that the opposite gender and all off life is against us and other such psychological issues.
I contacted a friend who said this. "Yes, Krishna was cursed by Gandhari, because she saw Him at fault for the death of her sons. But Krishna did not abandon his relatives in Dwarka. He specially instructed Arjun beforehand, to go to Dwarka to rescue all His Queens, etc.
It is written that when Arjun left the city, the city sank behind him.
Arjun was stopped by some dacoits, who took the Queens. But Srila Visvanatha Chakravarthi Tahkur, wrote in his commentaries, that the dacoits were actually Krishna Himself, who took the dacoits forms to fulfill the desires of the Queens to enter into a relationship with Him like the Vrajvasis. Thus He took them to Vraj Lila.
I have to again study about Gandhari's curse to find details. I read that a long time ago. She cursed Krishna that His family may suffer a similar fate, as did her family. Hence, the Yadavas fight each other.
Vaisnavism is not sexist. Specially not Gaudiya Vaisnavism. All of the Acharyas for the most part serve Yugal Kishore in Nitya Lila in the form of Manjaris. Female friends of Radhika. So it is not sexiest.

More so. The first Acharya after Nityananda Prabhu, was a female. Jahnava Thakurani, was one of the main leaders. She was Nityananda Prabus wife and an incarnation of Ananga Manjari, Radharani's sister. Even to date, those lineages of Nityananda Prabhu, are lead by Jahnava Thakurani.

Bhaktivinoda Thakur's Diksa line, is from Jahnava Thakurani. I will try to read more on it and share with you later."

So it seems to me, that rather than getting busy trying to purify ourselves and gradually advance and understand the intricacies, we tend to see things from our limited materialistic consciousness, such as considering ourselves as men and women, victims, etc. In this way, we become lazy and thus come to wrong conclusions based on limited information, like., Srila Prabhupada and Sri Krishna are bad and wrong. But a congress politician of a mundane government is my idol.

I think that rather than to think Krishna and His representatives are somehow unjust and against us, and that the real answers are had by   feminine and masculine mundane movements, we should acknowledge the great wisdom Krishna and His reps like Srila Prabhupada have brought to us, and that it is not Them at fault, but we are at fault, due to mundane contamination and laziness to try to understand these things as they really are.
I will try to share anything else I may get from my friend on the subject.
Jai Srila Prabhupada!

Sincerely,

Mahatma Das

Thank you for your comments.  Yes, I knew about Arjun being stopped by some dacoits, who took the Queens. But the comments of Srila Visvanatha Chakravarthi Tahkur,  that the dacoits were actually Krishna Himself taking the dacoits forms makes it all the more confusing.  I do appreciate your insights, however, it seems that all devotees' explanations of this event have fallen short.

I appreciate your comment. Even though you are an amateur you have admitted to what seasoned devotees or swamis have said, ...
that it is beyond our understanding when it comes to explaining major contradictions in the shastras.

Not to put anyone down but it was amazing thing to me to realize that Prabhupada must have been such a powerful personality that people wanted to serve him but they weren't even really interested in what his books were saying. I am still learning from his books and that is primarily the thing that has interested me in Krishna consciousness was reading Prabhupada's books. I appreciate the knowledge and insight you shared in this post and I am always looking to learn something new from devotees more advanced than myself.

Hare Krishna. Good point. Srila Prabhupada's magnetism is such, that people surrender to him even before reading his books. A good example is my Gujarati friend Saranga Das. After Srila Prabhupada left his body, Saranga Das prabhu, accepted Srila Prabhupada as his spiritual master. He studies Srila Prabhupada's books and other Gaudiya literature and now also has a degree in religious studies.

In any case, my minute understanding, is that in part Sri Krishna came as if He was an ordinary human being, doing activities meant to teach us, that externally would make us believe that He is creating karma for Himself. Some of the pastimes, have to do with past incarnations. Don't waste your time asking me for details, but the pastime of Sri Krishna being killed by an arrow, has to do with a pastime of  an arrow and Lord Ramacandra.

I want to introduce my friend Saranga Das prabhu, to those devotees that would like to discuss Krishna kata at more detailed levels.

Srila Prabhupada ki jai!!

Sincerely,

Mahatma Das
