First noticed an issue when someone was unable to text me as part of group messages (who was on Vodafone network), so tried a few things to resolve but was unable to receive any texts from that person. Otherwise everything else seemed fine.

I initially raised this to Three customer services and after completing a few checks, was advised it would be passed to the team to investigate. As part of this I reconfirmed my PAC code, so all sounded good.

I then received a text on 19th April saying the problem had been fixed and my services were working normally. This however, was not the case as I was still unable to receive calls/texts from Vodafone network.

The problem still hasn't been resolved today, so I've contacted live chat again and went through the same laborious checks around mast strength, signal on phone, wi-fi calling, whether the numbers are blocked etc. and was advised issue would be raised with relevant team.

How best can I try and resolve this as believe it's Three's responsibility according to Ofcom? Do I just need to persist with customer service or is there a more direct route to the technical and/or porting teams?

Had a split port myself a couple of times when moving between service providers in the past with it taking three weeks on one occasion to get it sorted (this was a move from an O2 based service to an EE based service)

Just thought it was strange that they text me to say all fixed, when it wasn't - and I wasn't overly impressed with the agent that I then subsequently spoke with, as they really didn't seem to understand the issue. Hopefully they re-raised this issue with the correct team.

Apparently it is progressing and Three have emailed O2 to reroute the number (not sure why as I can already receive calls and texts from O2 network), but also to Vodafone to ask them to fully release the number.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been affected by a split port, I know this can be really frustrating as you won't be able to consistently receive calls and/or messages whilst this is going on. Did the team manage to get this resolved after your last post about this?

My number just transferred over this morning and i'm not receiving ANY sms messages at all - and i need them for some of my work applications (for secondary authorisation). I tried turning off and on the RCS feeds as in one of your other posts but it's not doing anything. Any other suggestions?

Although the transfer from one network to another is usually very quick, It can sometimes take up to midnight for all services to fully move between providers. Hopefully your messaging is now working, and if not switching the phone off and on again will often fix an issue like this.

If this still isn't working I'd check if you're still receiving any level of service on the old provider's SIM, if your messages are still arriving there then that would indicate you have a similar issue to Scott who created this thread.

I've just ported my carrier from Aircel to Vodafone and unable to activate iMessage ever since. Is there any known issue with Vodafone and iMessage in particular? All it shows is "waiting for activation" or "activation unsuccessful". Best part - I've been consistently charged by Vodafone in name of activation.

You are correct and that is what's missing from the Help article on that topic. Some providers do charge for that SMS text to the UK. Mine doesn't because it's flagged in the system as the iMessage activation number. I'm in Canada by the way.

Actually nothing. I guess to activate iMessage a message/notification gets automatically sent to a UK no. and there by the balance gets deducted every time it attempts the same. I kept pestering Vodafone to refund my money for the unsuccessful activations and finally on one such auto-attempt it got activated.

This is ridiculous to say the least. Someone really needs to take care of this. IMO, the rejection is happening from Apple's servers. So its them who need to pull up and solve issues of so many customers.

Gonna disagree. See my post. Then complain to Vodaphone. The rejection is NOT happening from Apple's servers, unless you can provide the proof this is happening and since this is behind the scenes, you won't be able to.

Only working solution, is to tell your provider not to charge you for it. Some providers don't charge for this as it's flagged in the providers system it's to activate iMessage and FaceTime. According to the Support Article that deals with this, you didn't catch the line that says "Depending on your carrier, you may be charged for this SMS". Obviously everyone here except me and whoever marked this as "Solved", to which it is, caught this.

The problem is not a single charge. I am more than OK with paying rs 5 for its activation. But its been more than a month now with no resolution from vodafones end. It should get activated instantly like it does on jio and airtel

I'll use a real life example for this. When I bought a 6s to test the "ecosystem" after my Android dropped "dead", it took 15 hours to activate iMessage. When I exchanged that for a 6s Plus, before the 14 days were up (paying the difference), it took 12 hours. When I bought an 8 Plus, it was instant.

Here's the caveat: I have international texting enabled on my plan from my provider. So all those "requesting activation" didn't cost me a dime. But this was before the network on my provider (Freedom Mobile in Canada) was approved by Apple (6s and 6s Plus, both 128GB versions). The 8 Plus (256GB version), was bought after the network was approved. In addition, since I retain my 6s Plus, the settings were transferred over setting up the 8 Plus. So I may or may have not had to go through the "reactivation" procedures.

But what you are implying is that Vodafone charges for this and Jio and Airtel does not. Maybe you should contact Apple, but then the "revolving door" will start. Pinpointing the blame will be difficult to do.

I am not suggesting that Airtel and Jio are charging me or not charging for the same. Its that both the carriers are able to activate iMessage instantly while Vodafone hasnt been able to do the same despite charging for it multiple times.

Greetings fellow travelers. Last trip to Italy was in 2019 in Bologna where we picked up Vodafone SIM cards loaded with the tourist plan. We still have those SIMs and hope to re-use them as we're headed to Milan next week for a couple of weeks of helping the Italian economy recover. Does anyone have experience recharging SIMs that haven't been used in a couple of years? If so, I'd love to hear how that went, where (online/in person) you reloaded, and whether you have to reload another tourist plan or just some set euros. Grazie mille!

I do so only on some old numbers where I pay by usage. I use them on flip phones and I keep them alive to receive confirmation code texts from my Italian banks. I don't even know if they have those plans anymore. Most plans (or maybe all) are monthly data+voice plans, and unless you travel to Europe regularly it may make little sense to pay 25 or 30 euro a month for 12 months a year if you use it only for a few weeks a year. You are better off buying a new number each time you go.

However now I use my T-mobile Magenta/Magenta Max plan which includes international data. Google also offers the Google Fi plan now. I haven't inquired into that one, but it might be a good deal (check into that one).

For data in Italy I buy a SIM card only for my tablet, which is cheaper than the phone. For texts and calls all my friends in Italy use Whatsapp anyhow, so no need for a local Italian phone number (aside from my old flip phone).
