Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you and your colleagues to join us for an international, interdisciplinary exchange exploring global transitions, research metrics, geopolitics, and culture. 

Please note that these are in-person events held in Leuven, Belgium. If you or your colleagues happen to be in Europe or plan to visit around late June, we would be delighted to welcome you. All events are free of charge, but registration is required.


1. 2026 Belgium–Taiwan SSH Research Day

Opened by the Mayor of Leuven, the Ambassador of the Taipei Representative Office, and KU Leuven leadership, this event brings together over 30 international scholars across key disciplinary tracks:

  • Research Evaluation & Quantification in SSH
  • AI & Digital Humanities
  • Geopolitics, Law & Economic Security
  • Sustainability & Circular Systems
  • History, Linguistics & Literature
  • Closing Reception: Roof-terrace networking reception hosted by the City of Leuven and Deputy Mayor Prof. Bert Cornillie .

2. Taiwan Culture Day (Parallel Event Series)

📅 Date: Saturday, June 27, 2026 | 12:00 – 19:00

📍 Venue: Irish College, Leuven (Janseniusstraat 1)

Complementing the academic sessions, we warmly invite you to a curated cultural program exploring history, technology, and art:

  • 12:30 | Island of Islands: Documentary screening and exhibition on maritime identity.
  • 14:00 | A Chip Odyssey:  Film screening and panel on semiconductor geopolitics, featuring the former CEO of imec and economic scholars.  
  • 17:00 | Echoes of Taiwan: Piano trio concert of Taiwanese melodies, followed by a reception (18:00) .
