Does anyone know if this is the Sifu Bill Chung with whom Soke Murphy trained?

I don't think so.
From my understanding, he was in NYC in chinatown in a laundrymat (no joke).
He is an old man and I believe has passed away.
I doubt I can find much on him on the internet but I tried doing a search real quick and came up with the following:
Basically they say that "William Chung" is AKA "Zhou Ding"
I also doubt that this is the right "William Chung".
I think William Chung is the equivalent of John Smith......

Chris,

I think the Bill Chung who Mr. Murphy knew was from Chinatown in NYC. I met him 38-40 years ago. He doesn’t look like the person on the website. The William Cheung, on the website, doesn’t seem to have spent much time in the NYC area. Bill Chung was somewhat of a “character” in the kung fu scene in NYC years ago. Mr. Murphy told me a story about how Bill Chung tried to show him how he (Chung) could pull a stone from the bottom of a pot of boiling water without getting burned. He got burned.

There is also a William Chen still in NYC. From reading the forum, I learned that Mr. Murphy learned Tai Chi. He might have learned Tai Chi from William Chen. He was a well known Tai Chi man 35 yers ago in NYC. He studied with Cheng Man Ching.

Regards,

Frank Mastroianni

Chris,

That is defenitively not him. Bill Chung was and is now a past
grandmaster in the Hung Gar system (5 animal form). Sensei studied
with him I believe in NY like everyone is saying and also had or has
another school in one of the Brunswicks (New, East, North, South) that
is now ran by his son (Jr :)... ).

Carl, I am almost certain he is still alive unless something happened
very recently.

The picture is not Bull Chung. I've met Bill and did demos with him and Sensei Murphy. Plus I think the name is spelled Chung, not the way it is in the ad. Bob C.

It looks from this link as if Sifu Chung has become a fairly controversial figure.

I've found a few of his students, but the near consensus is that Sifu Chung has also become somewhat reclusive. I did receive the attached newspaper clipping from one of his students- I think it was from Sifu Pete Robinson.

Chris:

Yup. That's him.
