Hi all,
I just saw in the Issaquah Press a small blurb titled “County Seeks input on planned safety projects”.
See link:
http://www.issaquahpress.com/2010/10/26/county-seeks-input-on-planned-safety-projects/
This is for May Valley Road and Preston Fall City Rd. see article for contact info
Comments due Nov. 5th
One feature that really bugs me on the May Valley Rd is the north side has storm water grates that are craters. The shoulder is mostly unrideable. I think they did a resurface on the big time cheap previously – maybe they can fix this.
So PLEASE speak up!!!!

Hi All,
This is one of those opportunities we don’t want to miss. Though I’ve never worked directly with the County on roadway improvements, and therefore don’t know their people or have any idea how their process works, I’m going to send in my comments.
I don’t know the Preston-Fall City roadway between Highpoint and SR 202 that well, but I do know May Valley Rd. and agree with Karen that those storm drains on the north side are a real danger to cyclists. Any comments sent in with references like this to specific features or problems should get more attention than “improve bike safety” emails, though even simple emails like that should be sent in anyway.
Who would like to join me to travel both these roadways today? By looking at the roadways together we could pool our thoughts and hopefully create a more effective message to send in. Given the likelihood of weather and the fact I don’t have the time to ride today, I thought I’d just drive these roads to see again what they’re like, and base my comments on what’s out there. I know this is last moment, but with a Nov. 5th deadline for comments, it’s the best I can do. If you are interested, I’ll be in front of Veloce Velo in my black Honda Pilot in downtown Issaquah at 2:00PM today. Or give me a call at (425) 591-9570 if you’d like to hook up. We should be back within the hour.
Thanks Karen for bringing this to our attention!

Did you ride??? When I talked to Henry Perrin, he said this was mostly a project to put in rumble strips……but he did comment that the Overlay project guy, Jim Egan at 206-296-3742, needs to hear our concerns about the grates on May Valley. I did call last week, but no answer, so did not leave a message at that time…..
Hi Paul,Thank you for the feedback. I have noticed a great deal of bicycle traffic and lack of shoulders as I've been working out there for this project. Unfortunately, the grant for this project is targeted for very-low cost improvements over fairly high mileage- about 20 miles of roadway. We did consider shoulder widening at some locations where major grading, walls, etc. would not be required, however we found that even this level of work would exceed the $500,000 project budget so had to cut out most of the shoulder wading. The additional signage is something we can consider. I'm forwarding this to Keith Brown and Scott Sawhill for their comments. Thanks again for your suggestions.
