spammy join requests

FYI - I’ve seen an uptick in the number of people asking to join our email reflector, it’s suddenly become a few each week. They appear to be robotically or AI generated requests and I’ve rejected a couple already. They’re not just in the IARC email reflector; I see similar requests in two other groups I manage.

Here are the two most recent requests. Let me know if you recognize anyone.

1. Dashner...@gmail.com,
   Aug 9, 2025,
   “I'd like to join to connect with neighbors and community events. I also want to register my club and communicate with people in the surrounding area.”
2. Elsagr...@gmail.com,
   Aug 7, 2025,
   “Hi, I’m Julia. I live here and I’m renting. I’d love to join to stay informed through updates and emails. I’m also really interested in being part of local discussions and staying connected with the community. If you have any concerns regarding my address or owner, please feel free to ask me” (Why is the email from Elsa when the name is Julia, a red flag.)

Every application is slightly different. None of them mention anything about ham radio or where they live, except they try to sound noncommittally local. I reject them without comment as it’s a waste of time to send email questions to robots. I’ve tried sending an email query to sketchy applications in the past, when the requests were infrequent, and no replies were ever received.

Just wanted to let you know.
