Alex Loop for sale at ValueVillage in Issaquah

There is an Alex Loop available at Value Village in Issaquah.  It is in the case, and appears to have most of the parts.   However, the price was $399, which I think is a high.  You can build your own for far less.  Wanted to pass this information on, in case someone is interested and wants to haggle. 

I did pick up a benchtop HP3468A 5.5 digit multimeter (has the 4 wire sensing) for $34 - this was a great deal.  I didn't see any other ham related equipment.

It is very interesting to find such items at Value Village.  Were you on a hunt for ham radio stuff there?

  Yes, that does seem pretty high priced.  I think there were about $500 brand new, but I could be wrong. I know they probably are more expensive now, but nearly everything is.

 If I needed a mag loop antenna, I would not be interested in it for anything more than $250, unless it came with a return guarantee of some sort.  I think they were originally rated at100 watts, but I understand it is is possible to damage one by running that power on high high duty cycle modes.

They are interesting antennas.

Somewhat expensive. 

  Theoretical high efficiency.   Very very high Q. But absurdly narrow bandwidth.  100 hz maybe.  If you change freq need to retune. Wind blows need to retune. Temp change…. U get the picture.  

Tune cap is on the antenna. Pita.  Tining changes with power.  Tuning with high power means very high RF fields next to your head.  

I guess I am not a fan.
