Dear all

I am looking for downloading soilgrids 250m (clay, silt and sand content) f= or the whole of Africa. I found the ftp link ftp://ftp.soilgrids.org/data/A= F/recent/ But most of the data in the Saharan desert belongs to no data. However, the=  single data that I downloaded from  https://www.soilgrids.org/#!/?lon=3D-8=

.279560778566395&lat=3D19.698954983142173&zoom=3D3&layer=3DTAXNWRB_250m&sho=

wInfo=3D1

Site at least for sand content which I  tried has some value (sand content = of 97%).

Could you please tell me how I can download the data from the correct site? Why the data in the Saharan  Deseret has No data value ?

With kind regards

Girma

A)

         A)  The latest version of SoilGrids250 for the world is available at: https://www.soilgrids.org.

One can download specific geographic subsets (e.g. for Africa) by specifying the lon-lat limits of a “bounding box” (via download button).

The above data are also accessible via our Soil Data Hub at:
http://data.isric.org/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search;jsessionid=CA32D7C20D3B714A5D6A4B443352CC2A#/search?any=SoilGrids250m

Details are provided in: http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0169748. See also the remarks about the ‘land mask’.

B) The FTP site you are referring to is for an earlier 250m version for Africa only. This version used a different soil mask layer, i.e. “ all deserts and shifting sand areas were excluded” see  http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0125814).
