AI for Genealogists: Understanding the Basics and the Benefits
Presented in Hebrew by Dr. Sabine Akabayov
Artificial Intelligence is becoming a valuable tool for genealogists, helping with tasks that once required many hours of manual work. This introductory talk explains what AI is, how it works, and why it is useful for family history research today. We will
look at practical applications such as transcribing and translating records, enhancing historical images, summarizing long texts, and detecting patterns in large amounts of genealogical data. Participants will also learn about the limitations of AI and how
to use it responsibly. By the end of the session, attendees will understand how AI can save time and support more efficient genealogical work.
Dr. Sabina Akabayov was born in Germany and came to Israel to do her PhD at the Weizmann Institute of Science. After a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and several years of research,
she turned her hobby into a profession and now works as a professional genealogist and translator, using the analytical skills acquired in scientific research. Sabina specializes in DNA research, German research, immigrants from Germany to the US and Israel,
and German citizenship for descendants of people persecuted by the Nazis.
