UCD School of Philosophy Online Conference on the Philosophy of Conspiracy Theories

July 1st-2nd 2021

 

Keynote Speaker: Regina Rini

 

Second Call for Abstracts

UCD School of Philosophy is seeking abstracts of between 300-500 words for papers which seek to focus a philosophical lens on the contemporary mainstreaming of conspiratorial thinking about the political, scientific, and social domains.

Some topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

·         What are conspiracy theories?

·         Why do people believe conspiracy theories?

·         Testimony, Credibility and Credulity in a Post-Truth Age

·         Conspiracies, Misinformation and Democracy

·         Conspiracies and Propaganda

·         Conspiracies and Covid-19

Accepted papers should be suitable for a 25–30-minute presentation. Presentations will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. 

Conference will take place over Zoom and a link to the event will be sent out closer to the date.

Submission Guidelines: Submitted abstracts should be sent as a word document and be no more than 500 words long. Submissions also need to include a separate cover sheet with the following information: 

 

·  Full name of the applicant. 

·  Applicant’s institutional affiliation. 

·  Applicant’s status (e.g. faculty member, postgrad etc.)

All submissions will be prepared for a blind review. 


The deadline for submissions is 25th of May 2021

 

Successful candidates will be notified by 31 of May 2021

 

We especially welcome submissions from members of underrepresented groups in philosophy. Please feel free to indicate on your cover sheet if you identify as a member of these groups (and please note that this information is not mandatory).
