Do you think plants can be cognitive? Are you interested in the philosophy of cognitive (neuro-)science with an embodied and ecological twist? Do you think embodied cognition can inform our understanding of comparative psychology and other scientific practices? And, most importantly, would you like to investigate these (and other related) questions while basking in the Mediterranean sun? If so, this can be your opportunity.
The MYRTOS Research Group and the Minimal Intelligence Lab (MINT Lab), both based in Murcia (otherwise known as paradise with a university attached), are inviting bright early-career researchers to express their interest in applying for the Juan de la Cierva Postdoctoral Fellowships. Along with plenty of sunshine and a very decent salary, you’ll get €15,000 in research funds to fuel your ideas.
Now that we’ve got your attention, here’s how it works (who said it would be easy?):
The Juan de la Cierva fellowships last for three years and aim to promote the incorporation of early-career researchers into Spanish R&D centres to help complete their postdoctoral training. In addition to their salary, researchers will receive €15,000 in research funds. Candidates must have obtained their PhD between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2025.
Applicants must have an academic sponsor. Available academic sponsors are:
Dr. Vicente Raja,
Dr. Miguel Segundo-Ortin,
Dr. Guilherme Sanches de Oliveira, and
Prof. Paco Calvo,
Researchers interested in seeking sponsorship are encouraged to contact one of them before
18 November 2025. In addition, candidates must send an
updated CV and short research statement explaining how their research fits within the MYRTOS Research Group and/or MINTLab to Dr. Miguel Segundo-Ortin (
miguel....@um.es) by the same date. Once all expressions of interest have been collected, candidates will be contacted to confirm whether they will receive sponsorship. We particularly encourage submissions from women and researchers from underrepresented groups in academia.
The application platform will open on 25 November 2025 and close on 10 December 2025 at 14:00 (Madrid time).
Please, read all the documents carefully and make sure you meet all eligibility criteria.
