Dear colleagues,

We wanted to inform you about a new network for energy history!

Tijana Rupčić and I are the new convenors of the special interest group of SHOT (Society for the History of Technology) for energy history, which we now renamed “EnergHist” (the old name was "the Jovians”).

We hope it can be a new starting point for collaborations on energy history! We’ve officially expanded our focus from the history of electricity to the history of energy in all its forms, from coal fires to windmills, whale oil to the nuclear dreams, steam engines to solar panels. If it powered places, people, or even imaginations, it belongs here.

You can join the email list and group via this link: https://groups.google.com/g/energhist
Once on this page, you can send a quick request to join the group.

What to expect soon:

A group newsletter: with news, research highlights, conferences and workshops, and maybe the occasional historically accurate meme

Opportunities to share your work: We warmly invite anyone interested in giving a talk or presenting research, as we plan to launch Zoom seminars.

Physical meet-ups: We will organize special panels on energy history and informal gatherings at SHOT and maybe other conferences

This network is open to everyone: historians, researchers from other disciplines, students, etc.

Whether you’re a longtime energy historian, a curious newcomer, or somewhere in between, you’re welcome here.

We’d be grateful if you could spread the news and help us welcome new members into the group.

Welcome to EnergHist!

All the best,

Tijana Rupčić and Siegfried Evens
