"Descartes' Anti-Mathematicism"
The Edelstein Center and the department of philosophy at Ben-Gurion University cordially invite you to a lecture by Prof. Alan Nelson (University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill) titled:
"Descartes' Anti-Mathematicism"
Descartes is famous for the project of understanding nature geometrically or mathematically. He is also often regarded as a kind of Platonist realist about mathematical objects. A closer examination shows that Descartes regarded the value of mathematics as very strictly limited. The limits apply to the intrinsic value of studying mathematics, the epistemic role of mathematical truth, and to the nature of mathematical demonstration in the sciences.
ההרצאה תתקיים ביום רביעי, 18.5.2016 בשעה 17:00 בחדר הסמינרים של מרכז אדלשטיין (324), בניין לוי, קמפוס א' ספרא, גבעת רם, ירושלים.
פתיחת דלתות וכיבוד קל החל מ-16:45.
The lecture will take place on Wednesday, May 18th at 5pm in the seminar room of the Edelstein Center (324), Levi Building, Edmund Safra Campus, Givat-Ram, Jerusalem. Coffee will be served at 16:45.
