Dear List Members,

The Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) launched the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus – 8th Edition (open from 15 December 2025 to 29 January 2026, 17h Lisbon time). This call is aimed at PhD holders of any nationality or stateless with a background in any scientific area who wish to develop their scientific research or technological development activity in Portugal. FCT will ensure the funding for the hiring of the selected candidates for up to 3 years.

We are pleased to announce that we are open to expressions of interest from candidates specialized in different fields in Philosophy who wish to apply with the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies (CECH), based at the University of Coimbra, as their host institution.

The centre has recently been ranked as an ‘Excellent' research centre by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. It hosts a number of international researchers, Visiting Professors and funded international projects, in addition to the Celtic Conference in Classics, the largest gathering of classicists in Europe. You are welcome to watch our brief presentation video to find out more about us.

In Philosophy, we are especially looking for research that can relate to CECH’s Secondary Project Rationality and Hermeneutics. This includes research plans on areas such as Philosophical Hermeneutics, German Idealism, Phenomenology, other areas of the History of Philosophy (especially Ancient and Contemporary Philosophy), and studies on rationality (including its ethical, social, aesthetic, and political applications).

Expressions of interest must be submitted until January 9 by filling out a form where candidates will be asked to provide:

-       A link to an on-line CV;

-       Details on five major scientific activities or contributions that illustrate their research work during the last 5 years (max 1000 characters each);

-       A concise description of their research plan and of how its expected outcomes would fit into the research conducted at the CECH (max 5000 characters);

Categories of contracts available for application:

  1. Junior researcher - PhD holders for 5 years or less, counted as of the closing date of the application submission period, with reduced post-doctoral research experience in the scientific area to which they are applying.
  2. Assistant researcher - PhD holders at the closing date of the application submission period, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying.

Detailed information for candidates is available at https://www.fct.pt/en/concursos/concurso-estimulo-ao-emprego-cientifico-individual-8-edicao
