PostDoctoral Position in the Phenomenology of Quantum Mechanics

Where: University of Graz, Austria
Starting Date: October 2022 (negotiable)
Duration: 12 months
Salary: € 3.046,13 per month (gross)
Application deadline: September 15, 2022

Project: Quantum Mechanics and Phenomenology: Specifying the Philosophical Foundations of QBism

Principle Investigator: Philipp Berghofer

The PI of the project “Quantum Mechanics and Phenomenology: Specifying the Philosophical Foundations of QBism” (funded by the Styrian Research Council) is seeking a PostDoc (75%) to conduct research on the foundations of quantum mechanics from a phenomenological perspective. We are looking for a philosopher or physicist with good knowledge of (Husserlian) phenomenology, working on interpretations and/or reconstructions of quantum mechanics. The candidate is expected to support the PI’s research on:

Developing phenomenological approaches to quantum mechanics

Specifying the philosophical foundations and implications of QBism

Reconstructing quantum mechanics based on phenomenological-epistemological principles

At the University of Graz and via the collaboration partners of the project, the successful candidate will be embedded in a research community of philosophers, phenomenologists, physicists, and QBists working on approaches to quantum mechanics that refrain from reifying the wave function, do not wish to modify the quantum formalism in order to make it more consistent with classical intuitions, and consider the notion of experience to be fundamental.
