The  Philosophy group at Wageningen University is looking for an ambitious candidate to become tenure track assistant professor in bioethics. In this position, you are responsible for the development and implementation of new research activities in the domain of ethics in public health. We expect you to acquire external funding for an innovative research agenda and to inspire students to critical thinking. Your research focuses on normative reflection on societal challenges and novel technologies in life science domains like infectious disease control, nutrition, and environmental health. Together with your colleagues in the Philosophy group and in other chair groups, you will critically explore value conflicts that are involved in public health threats and also in policy responses, technological answers, and professional practices. This work includes:
• studying the ethical foundations of public health and health equity, exploring such values as solidarity and sustainability, individual and collective wellbeing, and the justification and limitations of potentially intrusive health policies
• collaborating with life scientists, health professionals and policy makers to strengthen ethical reflection in practice
• achieving social impact by contributing to responsible health policies and the design of responsible technologies, and by enhancing public debate
• developing your own research line and group that is successful in advancing the field and in acquiring grants
• developing and implementing education that inspires and challenges students

Can you help us innovate our education at Wageningen University? You will teach applied ethics and philosophy in a variety of study programs, at BSc, MSc and PhD levels, and supervise students in their thesis work. The job involves 40% education, 40% research and 20% administration tasks. We provide you with training and mentoring in order to accomplish all of this.

You are an ambitious scientist and team player, dedicated to research and education in bioethics and applied philosophy. To further strengthen our group, you:
• hold a PhD in practical philosophy
• are an inspiring teacher and student
• have an excellent publication record in bioethics (focus: public health ethics and/or health technologies) relative to your career stage
• know how to collaborate in a fruitful way with governments and health professionals.
• have a strong international orientation and interest in interdisciplinary work
• possess the capacity of acquiring, leading and managing externally-funded research projects;
• are committed to achieving societal impact in relation to societal challenges;
This position requires excellent English language proficiency (a minimum of CEFR C2 level).

This challenging career path starts at the level of assistant professor, from which you can grow into an associate professor and possibly be promoted to a personal professor position. An assessment of your dossier by the tenture track assessment committee will be part of the application procedure.

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will be offered a fixed-term, 7 year contract which, upon positive evaluation based on criteria elaborated in the University's Tenure Track policy, can lead to a permanent employment contract as professor. Your salary will depend on expertise and experience and the maximum gross salary for Assistant Professors is €5.922,- per month and for Associate Professors the salary can grow up to €7.054,- per month. Both based on a full working week of 38 hours.
