REMINDER: BSA WEBSITE & SOCIAL MEDIA EDITOR

The British Society of Aesthetics seeks to appoint a paid, part-time Editor for its website, newsletter, and social media.


DUTIES OF POST

WEBSITE: The Editor will be responsible for editing and maintaining website content, making sure all pages are relevant, accurate, up-to-date, appropriate for the target audience, and easily accessible to users. This will include updating pages to include new events, relevant activities, journals, and other updates.

The Editor must be able to respond promptly to requests from the BSA Managers and Trustees Committee members to create new content and update existing pages. The post-holder will liaise with the wider aesthetics community wishing to advertise calls for papers, journals and events, proof-reading and editing any adverts so that they are consistent with the style of the website.

NEWSLETTER: The Editor will curate a bi-monthly digital newsletter, featuring news from the website, new Journal articles, and announcements of the Society’s activities and events. The post-holder will proof-read and edit items accordingly for a consistent style, and ensure the format can be easily read on all devices.

SOCIAL MEDIA:  The Editor will maintain an active social media presence for the BSA via its Facebook page and Bluesky feed. The Society will also be launching Instagram and LinkedIn accounts soon, which the Editor will co-ordinate.

As well as adding excerpts or creating edited versions of BSA news items, the Editor will signpost relevant items of interest to the wider aesthetics community, and respond to any comments or queries.


TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

The post reports to the BSA Managers and receives technical guidance from the Website Manager. The post will be paid at £16 per hour for up to 100 hours per annum, as required. The appointment is for one year in the first instance, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

The Editor must take sensible precautions to ensure the safety of our members’ data and our social media accounts, including but not limited to: not sharing any data, not storing data on a shared or public device, and having strong passwords on any devices used to carry out the role.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

Applicants will be expected to be UK-based postgraduates working in aesthetics. No equipment is required other than internet access to carry out the role from home or university. The ideal candidate will have:

- an understanding of how to edit and maintain websites, including use of WordPress themes
- experience of copywriting, editing and proof-reading
- excellent attention to detail
- an understanding of best practice for the web (usability, access, SEO)
- an appreciation of style of the website
- good communication skills
- experience of maintaining an active Facebook account, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Bluesky feed

Knowledge of GDPR, Mailchimp, and generating graphic images for social media would be advantageous.
