Thomas Müller (University of Konstanz)

Description:
Anscombe’s 1971 inaugural lecture at Cambridge University, entitled ‘Causality and Determination’, has had a lasting influence on a wide range of philosophers and philosophical debates. It is still frequently cited in the philosophy of physics, action theory, the free will debate, epistemology, philosophy of mind, and metaphysics. The aim of this special issue is to bring out the sustained relevance of Anscombe’s paper fifty years after its conception for the full breadth of philosophical questions that it touches upon.

We welcome contributions linking Anscombe's paper to contemporary discussions concerning:
•Causation
•Powers
•Laws of nature
•Determinism and indeterminism
•Free will
•Agency
•Scientific practice
•Empirical knowledge
