About the conference
A growingly influential approach in the study of the mind is Relationalism, the view that particulars in the surrounding environment are constituents of ordinary conscious perceptions. Relationalism promises to vindicate our intuitive conception of perception's phenomenal character, to account for its epistemic and semantic role and even to help close the explanatory gap about consciousness. The New Waves in Relationalism conference brings relationalists of different generations together with their critics. It is an occasion for reflecting on the current status of the view, exploring its new directions, and connecting it to other disciplines. Among the topics to be explored are the relationship between external items and phenomenal character, the status of disjunctivism, the possibility of tensions between relationalism and cognitive science, and the motivations for relationalism.
