The Department of Philosophy at Lingnan University is looking for excellent philosophers to nominate for a Hong Kong Research Grants Council Postdoctoral Fellowship competition.

The fellowships last for 36 months, with an initial annual salary of 399,924 HKD (~ 51,000 USD) that can be topped up at the department’s discretion, and a research and travel allowance of 13,130 HKD (plus the opportunity to apply for additional research funds if desired). The posts are research based with no or minimal teaching duties (depending on the specific rank of the hire, no more than 1 or 2 courses per academic year by mutual agreement).

While nomination is no guarantee of a fellowship, nominated candidates have a strong chance in the competition: Lingnan Philosophy have consistently fielded successful applicants in recent years. More information can be found here: https://www.ugc.edu.hk/eng/rgc/funding_opport/pdfs/index.html

Eligible candidates must either (a) have obtained / been conferred a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification on or after 1 January 2019, or (b) will complete the requirement of a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification by 31 August 2023. The latter condition is strict, so it is essential that candidates without a PhD currently in hand are able to confirm that they will have completed all of the requirements for their degree (including having defended their dissertation / thesis) by the indicated date.

Candidates working in any area of philosophy are welcome to apply. However, candidates with interests broadly aligned with existing members of the department are more likely to be successful. A list of staff members and their interests can be found on our webpage: https://www.ln.edu.hk/philoso/

Applicants should email a one-page cover letter, a CV and an article-length writing sample to Peter Hawke (peter...@ln.edu.hk) with subject line "Postdoctoral Fellowship Application". Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. Shortlisted candidates will additionally be asked to submit two letters of reference and a two-page research proposal within one week after being notified. The deadline for applications is midnight (HK time) on 10 September 2022. Interviews will be conducted soon afterwards, with nominations finalized at the beginning of October and final fellowship results announced in April 2023.

Feel free to email Peter Hawke (peter...@ln.edu.hk) with any questions or for further information.
